the first real trailer is out and i'm just curious what non fans think. hbo is putting over 100 million dollars into this so if it isn't a hit i'd imagine we get one season.

glad to see sean bean here he still has a good head on his shoulders.

I've been watching on Movie Central's HBO Canada. It took me a couple of episodes to really appreciate it but I think the last 3 episodes have been excellent. So, is anybody else watching this?

The first few episodes had to set up a great number of characters. While reading the first book, it took me a few hundred pages before I stopped needing to think "Who is this character again?" I thought they set up the characters and various competing families very well in the series, considering the complexity.

And yes, the last few episodes have raised the bar -- it is joining the select few of great television series. If only HBO can keep it going and don't decide it is too expensive like they did with Deadwood.

Interesting end to the first season. Not at all what I expected. I'm also not used to a 10 episode "season", so I thought that we'd get to see more. It was getting so good and felt like it was really building to something but the finale was almost a down beat after some of those previous eps. Loved the final scene though!

I love it, and am so happy that HBO is putting in the time and money to do this as a quality production. I missed the first couple episodes, so I hope they will eventually rerun them. It's hard to have a big finale when you are following along with the plot from the book. I think it's time I go back and reread the series.

Love the books. Not you typical hero/villain story. Everyone is grey. Everyone gets fucked. Ned is the only 'white knight' and he gets dead!

Just finished watching season one. One of the better series from HBO. Looking forward to seeing more of the white walkers, direwolves, dragons and naked whores.

The third and forth books get bogged down in too many story lines going on at once (the two books cover the same period of time - that gives you some idea). I don't know how they are going to deal with that in the TV series, it will be confusing to watch.

Not so. Jon Snow for example. There are some other minor characters like that as well.

They'll probably streamline it a bit and put in chronological order like Martin should have done in the first place.

I am almost finished reading the first book, and am impressed so far. Martin is an easy guy to read, and I am enjoying myself a lot more than when I read Tolkien.

Just finshed book 5. Was great reading but now the waiting for the next book is tough. So far the TV series is pretty faithful to the novel.

Great Show! :thumb: My only knock would be the poor CGI and they have yet to stage any large scale battles (Blackwater is supposed to be featured in this Sunday's episode). Plus with only 2 episodes left I'm not sure how they are going to fit in all of second book.

the book was so much more exciting than the show itself. but Arya and the Imp (dinklage) was the best..didn't think Margery fits the role much, thought she was suppose to be 16.
Joffrey was suppose to be fat, I think Andrew Robl would have fit the role best.
Yeah, but Dany is supposed to be 13, Jon Snow 14, Bran is 7, Rickon 3, etc etc etc... Looks like they upped a lot of the ages of the characters...
And I disagree about Joffrey. Jack Gleeson is doing a PERFECT job - his character is one of the most HATED ones out there, which only means he's doing a great job...

Really liking lady Talisa - the nurse/healer in Robb's camp. She's hot as well as being the granddaughter of screen legend Charlie Chaplin and the great-granddaughter of Eugene O'Neill.

i total agree on Oona Chaplin, but I don't know why the changed her character (Jeyne Westerling in the books).

As to the comment about Margaery Tyrell don't judge to quickly. Natalie Dormer was excellent in The Tudors series.

I'm looking forward to the Red Wedding and wonder if they will show the Frey's creative taxidermy...

Waaaaay too many hotties on this show... among the characters I would like to bone - Cersei, Osha, Margaery, Ygritte, Talisa, Danerys, Ros, Shae, etc etc etc...

True fact: Sibel Kekilli, who plays Shae was a hardcore porn star in Europe!
