Its time for Canada to bring back the death penalty.

Unless your plan is to execute almost anyone for any crime like Mercy Shooter, the tax dollar argument holds no water.
Assuming we would go to a system similar to the states, where they execute around 50 a year.
With our smaller population and overall much lower homicide rate. Canada would likely only execute maybe 1 person a year on average.

Say the average guy executed would have stayed in prison 25 years. Now only 5-10 before his execution. So yeah each guy we execute saves 1.5-2 million spread out over 25 years. Or about a dime per tax payer......spread out over 25 years......
SO over the next 30 years....Canada executes 30 people. We each save about a dime a year....

Oh of course the new facility the government would build for executions, would eat that away pretty quick.

Maybe thats why no one is using the "not with my taxes" argument.

I assume the model that you used to come up with this is based on many more executions....more like the Chinese model.
Even executing 100 a year, would work out to a McDonald's lunch worth of tax savings. Per tax payer, per year.

As I said....I'd happily put a few dimes away per year to have those muthafuckers rot for 40 years in isolation, no chance for parole....ever. The only freedom they have to look forward to is death, once the sentence has been fullfilled...like I said, I'd rather pay for someone to spend the rest of their lives without any hope of release, for the crime of 1st degree murder. 2nd degree, 25 years until parole may be considered. Manslaughter, depending on the circumstances, 10-life, parole after sentence served.

Executions are barbaric, and don't really punish those responsible, as death is a release from responsibility, punishment.

i love the Chinese style,
once sentenced to death , it happens very fast , within days sometimes.
not bullshit appeal after appeal......then use all the body parts.

If they were simply locked up and fed 3 squares a day with maybe an hour solo exercise and no real "luxuries" (ie tv, reading, etc) I'm sure that 80-100k a year figure would drop (less guards needed as everyones basically on lockdown, no real general pop yard or meal time - basically need 4 walls and a door).

Realistically though this would break people. Even though alot of civilians would cry it's inhumane, I'm sure alot more cons would think about what they've done when all they literally have is time. Putting people in a population of other criminals does nothing. They're basically among their own people in their own little community (complete with criminal school).

So there would need to be some system in place to recognize true repentance and then somewhere to go where they can learn some life skills to help them from staying out. By this I still mean the process should take yeeeeeears. I'm not thinking of the 45 year olds here but someone pinned with 1st degree at say 22 or 23. Simply a decade removed from that age and I'm completly unrecognizable to that person other than in looks. Attitude, behavior, outlook and priorities are all vastly different. It's very unreasonable to assume that a 50 year old is a complete bag of shit, when he's had nothing to do but think about what he's done for the past 25 years, because he killed someone when he's 25. Have to have allowances, gotta be rigid though.

As long as we keep finding people that were wrongfully convicted of a major crime, the present approach is the correct one.

so pardner, what technique are we using to determine that they were wrongfully convicted - dna testing is what... well guess what? we have dna testing now! so if anybody is dna positive as the person that did the capital crime, i say blow the fucker to kingdome come with as little delay as possible

The context of the DNA evidence matters as well. Guy Paul Morin was convicted, largely because he was a misfit. But there was also physical evidence, hairs & such from the victim on his clothes & he claimed no contact. He was, of course innocent, but what about the hairs? Apparently both families used the same laundry machines & they were passed in the dryer. So, DNA is not an absolute. Context & correct understanding of the evidence matters and miscarriages of justice can still occur.
If you watch these cop and forensic shows closely, then you'll know how to minimize these uncertainties. ;) This is what Canada is lack of. Everything is way behind the world! Too passive, I should have said!

I prefer a nice aged sharp cheddar. The most memorable sandwich I ever had was a fried goose egg and cheese on German rye bread with Helman's mayo. It has to be Helman's, it has a sharp tang that sets off the cheddar wonderfully. If you want the pure experience of this noteworthy sandwich, you MUST fry the egg in salted butter with a small dollop of bacon fat.

God, I'm salivating uncontrollably.

Just so you know, tv shows aren't real. CSI and all those shows have real applied scientific theories, but it's a tv drama...scripted stories, not based in reality...with actors, not real forensic staff, not a documentary...it's sci-fi. Granted there is a bit of truth to their shows, but it's not real...yet.

I agree. But, you've got to have those basic elements to be put on in real life. I don't see any of these in real life, especially here in Canada.

You probably wouldn't, unless you worked in a forensics lab, morgue...in the industry, ya know?
Oh comeon myselftheother, you aren't thinking right.
You see it on tv dramas, however don't personally see it in day to day life.
Therefore it is not happening in real life, especially in Canada.

You just have to think like a fool

Are you sure you`re in the right thread, sir? Maybe this one is more suitable for your culinary commentary?
