no, the amount of people in the world is ridiculous

the oceans aren't getting bigger, neither is the amount of land, yet we continue to multiply exponentially

it's time to thin the herd, about 4-5 billion would be a good start
I think 1 billion people is more than enough...

Most of the world is living in poverty anyways...

Great way of looking at things
The # of exploitable resources are diminishing very quickly in the ocean. I read somewhere that in less than 40 years, global fisheries will be gone.

Japan has the largest sea food market in the world.
Most countires that have catch limits have set thier catch limits @ 50% or more with "threatened" species. When data is showing that 15-20% is sustainable. RE:Bluefin Tuna.

90% of shark populations are gone. 90-100 million are killed every year.

Newfoundland cod still hasn't came back yet. How many years has that moratorium been in place now? 1990?

The sea isn't an infinite source of food any longer and 7 out 10 people rely on seafood as their principle protein.

Long lining is a horrid practice. It's extremely wasteful along with other "standard" fishing practices.

However, it should be noted that shrimp and lobsters are flourishing and their numbers have doubled.

New and cleaner technology will make any growth sustainable.
So what 100billion, 200, a trillion people?

FYI the oceans make up 71% of the earth's surface and about 1.3 billion cubic KM total. Fresh water makes up only 0.003% of all water on this planet. It's practically impossible to even make a dent on the amount of water available.
Nice try, there will be no problem of running out of water.

People are moving because of the lack of opportunities and the higher standard of living elsewhere. You don't think have access to clean water and improved agricultural productively will increase the standard of living for those places?

I know PERB is an adult site... but please, stay in school.
It's about balance, it's always been about balance.

Just because some stupid human can think of something or actually do it, doesn't mean it needs to be done or is good for people or the planet or the other animals here.

I never said it couldn't be done, I questioned the intelligence/necessity of doing it, Professor.

I dont know about lobster but shrimp flourishing could be attributed to the on land shrimp farmers.
No it has to do with a break in the food chain that allow them flourish. I cannot recall exactly why. It was noted in a film called "The end of the line". It is considered to be an ocean-wise choice. Many restaurants do that now.

70% of fish raised on farms are dead before export. It is wastful and ecologically unsound.

You cannot ignore the basic laws of ecology. Business does. The war on nature continues, and we're not stopping until evrything is destroyed or something collapses. So much for smarts.
