Is Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida the last hope to stop Jon "The Gay Bones" Jones???

With the upcoming UFC 140 title fight this weekend...many people are saying if Jones beats Lyoto Machida, he will have the greatest 1 year performance in MMA history...

He already beat/destroyed Ryan Bader, Shogun got raped and looked slow and unless, and Rampage was a human punching bag! Personally, I think Lyoto is the greatest threat to Jones...since Machida clearly has the best skill level in the division. Guys like Shogun, Hendo, Rampage...have no hope in beating Jones.

They're very similar fighters in terms of style, but I think Jones is faster with better reach and Machida is more intelligent but is an in-close fighter.

I'm rooting for Machida myself.

It will definitely be an interesting fight, and I do think it will be a tough one. I think Machida will win because Jones will get frustrated by Machida's more defensive posturing, but Machida will get hurt bad as Jones pounds on him from a distance.

Machida is gonna stay on the outside and get picked apart. If The Dragon would come forward, pressure and punch he would have a chance but he won't. He's gonna stay outside and try to win a points contest. Jones is too fast and too long for that to work. Jones wins this easily IMO. Jones by KO, just like Shogun did to Machida.

Hendo always has a chance with the H Bomb and his chin.....I'm still in awe of Shogun not being stopped when he got nailed by them.

The one guy in th LHW division no one is talking about and has impressed me is Alexander Gustafsson. This guy is getting better and better, just needs to continue working on his wrestling. I understand he has been training with Phil Davis on it. Laugh if you will ITB but Gustafsson destroyed Hamill and that was something Rampage didn't do :nod:

So you predicting Machida will look as bad as Shogun vs Jones? Not sure Lyoto can look THAT BAD, unless he gets KO in the first round. Shogun did no damage to "Gay Bones"!ound:

Jones by decision-he's alot taller and quick hits and wild elbows. Unless Machida does the crane kick,but I'm sure Jones saw the Karate Kid (original) and the Coulture retirement match.

Lyoto Machida is going to have a game plan that no one is anticipating, but should be anticipating.

Lyoto is a master at keeping distance and then darting in and out with counterstriking - this will nullify Jones' reach. Jones has very long limbs and Lyoto, after some feeling out, will be able to read and then time Jones' strikes - he will see Jones' strikes coming from a mile away. He will be able to dart in and out on Jones once he figures out Jon's timing.

Machida will not just attack with his hands at the counterstrike, but also will attack Jones' lead leg with trips and inside kicks. He will do this to knock Jones' timing off and to disrupt his footwork. Jon Jones is going to face some problems that he hasn't had before - he is going to find an opponent who will not allow him to just do what he wants to do.

How will Jones react when his timing and distance is disrupted and then is attacked when he's off? I think this is what is most interesting...and will be adversity Jones has never faced. Jon Jones is going to be punched in the face which has never happened before, and he had better be prepared because the way Machida attacks, if he finds his target he is going to get blitz kreiged when he isn't expecting it.

Jones will win this one pretty easy. To beat Jones, someone has to get inside on him.
Rampage fought stupid, sat on the outside and got slowly picked apart.
His only chance was forcing his way inside.

Machida will stay on the outside. He doesnt have the reach, and will be picked apart too.
I actually see this being a dull fight, for at least the first couple rounds. They will both be far apart finding their range.

Well he sure had no problem KO'ing your boy Machida :nod: Was actually one of his easier fights he's had in the UFC. One could say Shogun showed a hell of a lot more toughness taking a beating from Jones and not going down from the Knee, than Machida did getting one punch KO'd in the first round. The hammer fists were just for good measure ound:

Machida's Options:

1) Stay outside and get picked apart
2) Try and fight at close quarters against fence, get taken down and elbowed to death
3) Try to come inside and get taken down and elbowed to death
4) Take Jones down, lose position to a superior wrestler and get elbowed to death
5) We don't know about Jones chin yet but we know Machida can get KO'd easily with a shot.

I took a $100 bet at +485 on Machida, and dont even like him at those odds. Will be scalping it before the fight.
My only real wager will end up being on little Nog. I see Tito trying to stand with little nog and taking a bit of a beating.
