Microdermabrasion

Hi guys,

My girlfriend has some freckles on her face that she was born with, and has thought of using microdermabrasion at a laser center to get rid of them.

So I'm wondering if anyone has personal experiences about the matter of how safe and effective it'll be, also what place would you recommend in richmond/Vancouver if any.

I recommend IPL (intense pulse light). Usually takes a couple of sessions & most clinics will have packages of 3 or 5, cost is about 300/session.

Fyi, freckles are sun damage. Cute but not good.

Oh I'm not sure what hers are called, because it's not sun damage its more of a birth mark. But it's like a mini clutter of discoloured dots on her cheeks. Her dermatologists say it is some kind of fungus grown into her skin and the only way to get rid of it is laser.

If a laser is used to get rid of a birthmark the area needs to be applied with sunblock daily. If no sunblock is used the melanie ( spell) will appear on the lasered area and it will be a dark spot possible worse than before. Just something to think about, having to use sunblock on that area forever.

Freckles tend to run in families. People (especially kids) who have fair complexions are most likely to freckle.

People with light skin and eyes have less melanin, a chemical in the skin that protects it from sun damage by reflecting and absorbing ultraviolet (UV) rays, but some melanocytes (the melanin-producing cells) make more melanin when exposed to the sun. Instead of tanning evenly, people with less melanin get freckles.

So it's a combination of genetics and sun exposure that explains why your son has freckles. Some people's freckles fade away almost completely in the winter, just to return in the summer. People who freckle are often more likely to get sunburns. It is important for everyone (freckled or not!) to wear sunscreen while outside to protect against skin damage and skin cancer.

Nooo...freckles are adorable!!!

But I guess if she really wants to get rid of them, personally I would recommend limelight (IPL) over fraxal. Fraxal has a relatively long and painful recovery time, and has more risk for scarring.
