I understand your point Miss Bijou and you presented it well but we differ in our opinions on this. I won't deny what you said about revenge, that is part of it but not the only part. THe bible says an eye for an eye so it is part of Christian values. Is capital punishment a deterent, we can't ay for sure but giving murderers early release and house arrest is a joke and no deterrent at all.

How about public safety? Far too many of the violent crimes are committed by repeat offenders. Capital Punishment will ensure these people are no longer harming innnocent victims.
The Bible also says, in complete contrast, "And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other." The Bible as a source of moral guidance is on par with Mein Kampf (although it does have some nice sections), and way below Monty Python's Meaning of Life. It justifies slavery and genocide many times over. "Christian values" as interpreted by fundamentalists are part of the whole problem with the politics of fear, and every Christian has a different idea of what those values are. Keep them in the fucking church, not in our law books.

Are you seriously comparing the Bible to Mein Kamph? You are correcxt that every Christian has different values. Many Christians don't support the death penalty and many do and i am pretty certain there are plenty of other issues not agreed upon by Christians.

My point was that it is not unheard of for Christians to support the death penalty although interpretation of the bible can change from person to person. Just as the bible preaches forgiveness. My opinion is these peoeple who commit violent acts onto others don't deserve forgiveness and the punishment should fit the crime.

Yes I am, seriously (although I am far less familiar with Mein Kampf; it may be a much more benign read than I assume). You suggested "Christian values" as appropriate for our laws, but the Bible can be (and has, and is) used to justify anything and everything according to the "pick a verse that justifies your opinion" method. It is a horrible source for moral guidance -- you and I could quickly select 10 much better rules for moral guidance than the Ten Commandments -- many of which deal with which god to worship. It doesn't take much research to discover many, many horrible acts justified by the god in the Bible. Chief among them in current society is the idea that anyone not fortunate enough to accept Jesus will burn in Hell for eternity -- and that's the new testament, not the old.

I agree 100%. I think we could get some help from the fine folks here as well. I'm not saying i agree with everything in the Bible, the eye for an eye quote is applicable to this case if you support the death penalty. I like the idea of re-writting the 10 Commandments though, we could incorporate some of societies views that maybe weren't accepted waaaay back in the day.

dont bring back the noose , bring back public executions....
rent out bc place and charge spectators more than canuck ticket price with much more entertainment value and get some of our tax dollars from the scum who are condemmed.
we could sell small caliber only to wound shooting gallerys at 10 dollars a shot , and have monster trucks chasing the scumbags with sharp prongs and running them down so the snipers can get shots at them.... then the grande finale' with pickton or bernardo , or numerous creeps could be to slowly stretch them out between a couple monster trucks on a bungy cord and then cut it and launch them against a sharp nail board... then drag the fukkers around the arena thru the starving rat cages and the hungry dogs kennels...
at 150 bucks a ticket ,,,,,,, i want season tickets.
