This happened about 4months ago...I suddenly had some sort of itch possibly inside my penis, a few days later i started pains/burning sensation when I urinated, no pus seems to come out, just the pain when urinating, after 3 days of this, i decided to go to the family doc, he got me to do an urine test testing for gonorhea and chlamydia. he said he was going to contact me if there was anything found. he never called back. and 2 days after the doc visit i no longer had the pain, it just disappeared. im still wondering what was that all about? thanks

First of all listing your symptoms here is kind of disgusting, secondly I doubt there are many licensed physicians on this board and third you can call the doctor if he has not called you and if you still need assurances take another test.

This is a Sexual Health Information section so he's free to list his symptoms no matter how "yucky" it may seem to you. Lastly, Health Nurse responds to posts here on a regular basis and he or she is an actual nurse at the BC Centre for Disease Control

My first point about listing symptoms is not the best one I have made and after looking up it seems you can "Ask all the questions you want" here. But I think there is a limit to that. So writing about symptoms is OK, what about posting pictures of genitals and asking for a diagnosis?

Given the rules, on the second point I was just wrong.

The last two points is just personal preference but what the OP did I stil find strange. His doctor is "legally" bound by doctor-patient confidentiality, yet he chose to come and post his symptoms in a semi-private forum where quite a few people will see it.

Hi dewwy

It is hard to diagnose conditions on the internet, as we would need to do a physical exam, do testing, as well as get your medical and sexual history. What I can do for you today is give you some suggestions based on what you have written.

There are a number of different things that can cause the symptoms you described e.g. an irritation to the urethra (pee tube), bladder or prostate infection, a sexually transmitted infection (STI).

If an STI is a possibility for you it is really important you give the doctor some information e.g. “I met a person in a bar” you don’t have to give the full story but knowing it could be a possible STI will help the health care person. Given that your doctor did a gonorrhea and chlamydia test, they must have thought that an STI was a possibility.

As the doctor’s office did not call back we will just assume that the gonorrhea and chlamydia tests are negative. There are a few other things that can be sexually transmitted (e.g. mycoplasma, ureaplasma etc…) that can cause similar symptoms but are not tested for. Given this if we think an STI is a possibility we will do testing as well as treat with antibiotics at the same time.

Did your doctor give you some medication or did you just get the test?

To answer your question it is hard to know what was causing the problem I think all we know is that it wasn’t gonorrhea or chlamydia.

As this happened 4 months ago it sounds like this is something that is still playing on your mind. I would suggest that you visit your doctor for an STI check up. As it has been 4 months, this would be enough time for any STI to show up on a test if you are concerned.

I don’t know your sexual history but given that most STI do not show symptoms we usually recommend regular testing rather than waiting for symptoms to develop.

Here is a link for more information on what tests to get.

If you have some more information you do not want to share on the public board just send me a PM.

Thank you very much for replying HN. The doctor gave me a prescription but he told me only to use it if he called me back, but he never did. Anyways I think i'll take your advice and just visit him again. Thank you

Hi dewwy

That sounds like a great idea.

They would have all your past tests on your medical record.

Before you go to your doctor have a look at this link. It has a list of all the tests we recommend just in case they forget one. It is common for many doctors to miss the syphilis one.
