Directed by Kenneth Branagh, the epic adventure "Thor" spans the Marvel Universe from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.

I love these kinds of movies, as cheesy as they are sometiimes. I just saw Agora last night :)
Totally with you! And they are not cheesy, they are true! All of them! They must be, 'cause we need escapism, adventure, and heroes and villians, and action! I think we are THOR-tunate to have these wonderful cheesy epics to take us away from taxes and war and famine and bad bad people that can't post worth a shit.

Thanks,

-Punt.

Looks cool! Good timing of release. By that time, OIL is probably over 120+, already hit a $ 100 today. Escape from reality entertainment as what the above post mentioned. The smart cutie Natalie Portman is really on a roll. Just finished top grossers " Black Swan " and " No Strings Attached " and now comes the mighty " THOR ". :) :)

Escapism is great! I am a huge Stargate Fan!

'The Asgard'... they had those critters on SG1, I am pretty sure.

(My daughter says I remind her of Samantha Carter :) )

I think I will go see this Thor. Looks like there will be lots of muscles everywhere!

MMmmm... I know what you mean about the muscles, when 300 came out I couldn't wait to see it! But it's defiantly about the escapism, too much of a good thing doesn't work well in reality....

Good timing of release without much competition this weekend except for last week's phenomenal Fast Five franchise. An easy $ 30 Million in the weekend box office. Plus, Fast Five will be way over a $ 100 Million in just its second weekend. :) :)

I've read that the weekend box office was 65.7 Million for Thor. You were right on your Fast Five prediction from what I read (I think it was $132 Million so far).

Bah! Humbug!!

Vincent D'Onofrio (from Law & Order: Criminal Intent) is the REAL Thor!

I had completely forgotten that bit from Adventures in Babysitting! It was fun seeing that again. And, on the topic of Vincent D'Onofrio in this context, I remember watching a movie years ago where he portrayed Robert E. Howard (writer of the Conan books) in a romantic drama with Renee Zellweger. The movie was called "The Whole Wide World" and while I haven't seen it in a long time, I remember being really impressed with it at the time. I'd recommend.

downloaded and watched thor the other night. the asgard part of it was ok. the earth part was lame. the whole falling in love in a day or two with thor and natalie portman is stupid. she serves no real purpose in the film other then a big name to draw people since no one has heard of the guy playing thor. basically the film is part 1 of the setup for the avengers movie next year. captain america later this summer will be part 2.

the only marvel based movie i ever actually really liked was the punisher war zone, because it wasn't all about special effects. people actually died, and they didn't care about being a $100 million film as it was a strongly rated r film with graphic violence.

Priest definitely looks good, I saw Thor on the weekend. Not bad, nothing overly exciting but I still enjoyed it. Didn't see it in 3D and not really sure what it'd be like, can't imagine it being worthwhile... Although some lady was raving about how she saw it in 3D, "even the trailers are in 3D!!"
