As for Craigslist, shutting it down gives the abusive and exploitive people in the industry a better opportunity for profit by making life more difficult for reputible providers and their clients. The only thing that seriously threatens the predators is legitimate competition.

My thoughts on this stat was that how could it possibly be directly linked to prostitution. Isn't it more likely ptsd is linked to the reported violence, the threats with weapons, and the rapes that were also reported in the stats as experience by sex workers. It seems to me the act of prostitution itself is unlikely to cause ptsd, since the act is getting paid for a sexual service. Unless that service is traumatic in and of itself, it is unlikely to cause stress as well.
The other comment i had was related to shelby's impression of sps in agencies. I suspect the reaction of an agency sp to be more negative than an independent one, why not? She has little or no say in who she sees, in some cases she will have no choice in what she charges and in extreme cases she won't be able to select her own service comfort level. Why would someone in that position be super duper happy, all that and she has to wait around for someone to choose her, vs whoever else is working that day (or whoever else tips the booker better than she does and so gets the calls) etc. In the case of countries with regulation along with decrim, no agency or mp owner is allowed to dictate to the sp who she sees, or fine her for refusing or fire her for decliining an appt. Even now I doubt if it is legal, because to the letter of the law no one can coerce or force a woman into prostitution, and even as an employee it would be literally against the law to threaten her with fines or job loss for declining an appt, since the threat itself is coercian and against the law.

From what I observed CL was saturated with exploitation of Chinese & other Asian women & girls being pimped out by several groups through micro's & bawdy houses.
I never patronized any of these for that reason but heard many stories from other dudes that they had strong suspicions that many of the girls were working in an indentured type of arrangement.
I think eliminating CL as a source for these less than reputable types to advertise was in fact a good thing for those being exploited.
Hopefully this will force some to become more legit in the way they operate.
