Makes you appreciate what a great service PERB has been.

It might make a few men out of some who only know to to sponge off others; now they may have to do a little more for themselves.

It is kind of funny, some of the guys sound like they will never get laid again. Considering all the other sites, and even CL sections the girls are already advertising on, the only extra exercise their hands are going to get is more keyboard time.

I remember, not without nostaligia, planning my trips to Vancouver for Thursdays, so that I could pick up a GS on the day it came out. That way I could be sure of getting my hands on one.

I don't so much care about the finding an sp aspect of CL erotics demise but I am seriously pissed about a bunch of right wing religious whack jobs fucking with the bill of rights. This BS needs to be stopped before we become a USA clone. I never really worried much about Canadian politics because Canadians generally have their heads on straight, but Mr Harper et al seem to consider it their task to bring Canada under the Republican mandate of controlling everything and screwing anyone who gets in the way of endlessly raping the public purse. It seems that the end time whackos are happily CREATING the end times all by their selves. Friggin scarey.

I wouldn't consider myself an old timer but I did a very brief stint as an independent when I first dabbled with the industry in 2005.

I didn't use the internet for any of my advertising and did very well without it then.

The whole panic over CL being shut down makes me giggle. Flip open the back of the Georgia Straight and the West Ender as I'm sure there will be an abundance of new ads popping up soon.

I wonder if it will go back to the days of pooners posting ads for micros from the Chinese newspaper asking for Chinese to English translation

Craigslist is still alive and well and thriving. Sure, you lost something valuable to you, but how much money did Craigslist make from the Erotic section. Nada, eh?

When C/L turned the lights out on Erotic in the US, they introduced the "Adult" section and charged $10 per ad. That was the time that most advertisers went to the Therapeutic section. So, they closed the Adult section down. Problem here is you guys are about 18 months behind where we were when this all surfaced.

In the US C/L was threatend by the AG's of 40 states if they did not end the Erotic. Since they made no money from it, it was not a tough decision to shut it down. I suspect their recent decision from which so many of you are feeling the pain was merely a business decision condidering Ontario was considering some legal action.

How many of you have any clue how Craigslit makes its money? No fair doing any searching, LOL.

I'm in my early 40's and saw my first SP in the mid 90's when I was visiting Toronto by looking up the yellow pages. I asked for a certain type, but of course did not get what I asked for when I opened the door. However, she was a good listener and good at what she did and helped me forget what I needed to forget, so I actually saw her again, at her place. After this I called up ones that advertised in the escort section in the personal ads of the local newspaper. Again it was hit and miss, mostly miss. Finally I resorted to driving around the strolls, talking to SW's. I didn't always want to hire one, just wanted to talk to them. One time I started to talk to one who I discovered later was a cop (she was REALLY attractive too), so I stayed away from that area for awhile.

When did Perb start anyways? I only found it a little over a year ago. The demise of CL doesn't bother me alot because Perb is still standing. It's a great resource for screening SP's. You young guys don't know how good you have it. You don't have to be sex starved, you just have to make a little more effort to find what you want.

I cheated and googled it. Job listings and Apartment listings in 4 US markets.
Pretty amazing. Also, they only have 12 employees. That's why there is no moderation. Probably all 12 are either the receptionist or the people that keep the site up.

Even cheaters do not get it quite correct. Last I looked there were about 13 cities where people pay for ads and they had about 40 employees.

To learn more about it and see why they have so few employees Google "craigslist wikipedia". That little house will only hold so many people.

TO answer SFMIKE, besides the Westender and the very few ads on GS, my source was from the famous "Buy and Sell", they used to have lots of adult ads...when the internet started to bloom, B&S started to die down (adult section).

I do vaguely remember a time when some members were asking others for translations of the ads from the Chinese papers. I think this is what she's referring to.

you asked a mouthful there. as i remember it the original vancouver escort review board was a western canada division of terb. when the pre-eminant posting board of the day (the big doggie) finally self destructed in the mid 90's, many went to verb as it was a fairly laid back board with a bunch of honest pooners who were totally devoted to LAS and strictly no drama.

the influx of newcomers soon took care of the no drama atmosphere and upped the traffic tremendously. at that time the powers that be decided to set up a totally new board committed strictly to the west coast, and the pacific escort review board (perb) was born. late 90's if i remember correctly - somebody help me out here with the date?

Actually it's not the religious right... it's the feminists. They don't talk about prostitution any more. They just call it 'trafficking' or 'sex slavery'

The idea they're trying to push is that there is no consent... that all sex workers are 'coerced' into what they're doing or are doing it because of economic slavery or something.

Nobody likes exploitation and the last time I checked, child prostitution was against the law, as it should be. So is confinement, abuse or any of the other vices that surround the sex trade.

The current political move is to try and criminalize demand... ie even it it's a consensual voluntary act... because prostitution is 'rape' according to the prevailing feminist ideology.

Stay tuned for more legislation attempts. The ridiculous thing is that driving prostitution underground will only increase the bad stuff that happens at the low, marginal end of the scale. And it's also futile.

You can find the ad's in Chinese Sing Tao and Buy & Sell. However the ad's are no comparison to what's on CL, and most of them are AMP's only. On CL, it's really multicultural which represents Metro Vancouver very well. LOL!

It's not the rumbling about CL's section's demise, but the fact that most of the ads were all concentrated in one place. Now, it's all over the place...everyone is trying to figure out where they can get the most traffic. As I see it, there are many places to look/research which can lead to one being easily overwhelmed. Now, if only everyone would stop it with the crazy phone numbers with all the added characters in between. That's so old school.
