As Odette just mentioned to me, it's an awful time of the year for them to shut it down with it being Christmas and all

I feel sorry for people who relied on it as their only source.......especially the ones who are single moms :(
Oh come on. They could get jobs to support there kids.

Let's not put this spin on it.

Yup - gone.........I'm guessing that means more SW, more rapes, more deaths, more job security for welfare workers, more hungry children, more women living with abuse etc. etc. etc. All of the things that improve the quality of life in our community.
In the end? It won't change a thing for the better but it might result in more work for the cops and the courts. Christian behaviour in the true spirit of the inquisition. Let freedom ring.

This seems to work for now

Went to CL homepage for All Vancouver, BC. Clicked on "women looking for men". Answered positively to the warning / advice page. Got to search page. Changed group to "erotic services". Did search on W4M with an age range. Full listing came out. When I tried to do another search from there, it did not work. Back paged to orignal search page where I initially changed groups, changed search parameters, and voila, results appeared again. Saw posts from 5:15 p.m.

Who knows how long? Now 7:10 p.m. Vancouver BC time.

Anyway, in the worst case scenario, I have my "black book" of all my favourties. That should do me for at least a while. I imagine many regulars have Muns and Maggie's on speed-dial, LOL.

I guess business will be really good for the AMPs.

Of course they could......... however, it's December 17th. We are a few days away from Christmas day. It would be a miracle if they got a job, and managed to get a paycheque in time. Maybe some of them do have jobs, but were relying on the money they made from CL to supplement their income.
Meh, im not really buying what you're pushing.

This is horrible! I hope the heroes responsible for this feel proud. Proud that many girls will end up on the streets instead of "safely" in their homes. I guess I need to save my money anyways, but this sucks.

Maybe it's just short term, because I remember once a long time ago when it was gone for a bit. But then, maybe I'm just in denial lol

If it IS gone forever, I, with lots of others, will have VERY little use for craigslist anymore.

Its an amazing business opportunity for a tech savvy guy or gal. I'm surprised it hasn't already popped up in the States, who lost the CL ERS weeks ago. Someone will develop daveslist or debslist, devoted to dating and erotic ads and not subject to the family-oriented pressures that drove ERS away from CL.

This is probably has a lot to do with it:

If CL was flooded with human trafficking, you'd think there would have been tons of arrests? I mean, one would think it would have made this task ridiculously easy if all it took was to spend some time on CL and set up fake appointment and get those traffickers.... no?

So what is it? Are the police totally fucking useless and just let all these "traffickers" operate right under their nose, or on their PC screen? Or have the justice minister, this Professor and whomever else denouncing CL as responsible for allowing all these traffickers to sell "slaves" on their website... just forced the supposed traffickers to go underground? Sounds like a wonderful plan, eh? Or sounds like there wasn't all that much "human trafficking" action on CL.

But seriously, even if we go along and pretend it was full of human trafficking, what do people like Perrin think they can accomplish by getting rid of CL erotic section? So stupid.
Big shocker, some of those actually involved in finding children who are being trafficked, don't see how getting rid of CL's erotic services section would make a difference!

In the US, many just went to backpage.com.

Isn't it strange that these idiots had a direct line to all the sexual slavers and predators who were posting multiple times every day. And they killed their best source of leads. The bad guys win again. ( of course winning isn't hard for evil doers when the competition is blind, dumb, stupid Christian right wing wackos)

Plenty of prisons,'

And the Union workhouses? Are they still in operation?

GENTLEMAN #2
They are. Still, I wish I could say they were not.

The Treadmill and the Poor Law are in full vigour, then?

Seemed strangely fitting given the season.

I feel bad for the ladies who utilized CL with a clear head and by choice ..heck I was kinda dissapointed ....I started on CL and have meet some super wonderful people ...I found it a great avenue when I toured as not everybody knows about the boards ...then found Perb :D

On the flip side CL has taken a change for the worst over the last year and a half as far as the abuse that goes on the spamming ...underage girls, those that are addicted to drug ... as for the comment that there will be more murders perhaps it will be the opposite. ...TV shows made CL a more vizable avenue for those who perhaps never even though about it until they say it on TV...

This is just another way of a few people successfully censoring something that so few people even knew about. (or cared)

Censorship is the real issue here.

What will be the next target after CL? PERB better watch out. The "enlightened ones" will soon be proclaiming that PERB is facilitating the exchange of information that promotes sexual slavery, therefore it should be shut down. It's only a matter of time.

Dear heavens, won't somebody think of the lonely single dads!!!!!!

My prediction is that everyone will scurry to check out a number of other sites for the next couple of weeks, but then the dust will settle and one website will come up on top by New Years, and the vast majority of the former CL advertisers will migrate there. Craigslist grew this type of type of advertising to the point that it's now impossible to put the genie back in the bottle, as it became such a infulential part of this industry. It's just that the king is dead, and the pretenders now have a chance to fight for the crown!

The beauty of Craigslist was that it created a critical mass of advertisers. There was so much volume that it was easy to see who was available and who was not in real time! It did have it's problems, by allowing the cryptic phone numbers, and numerous fake pics. Hopefully, the site that takes it's place will have some way to limit this.
