Just gimme a baseball bat and an enclosed room and lead them in single file.

I know you probably don't give a shit but this comment really pissed me off.
Regardless of the outcome in the investigation this is a disgusting comment...grow the f**k up.
Agreed....how about showing some respect for the girl and not search for the pics. What's wrong with people?

Al, I agree to disagree...it bothers me that the media discloses so many details in these cases...I notice they switched to the word 'assault' rather than 'rape'.

It is just as easy to track and punish the offenders silently as it is to blast all the information over the media....and of course, much easier to hang them!

Tell you what, why don't you arrange to come by my office? We can discuss your knowledge of the case, why you seem to be out here defending the rapists and your role in all this.

Give the lead investigator a call, he knows how to contact me.

I'm not defending the alleged rapists at all, everybody knows that anyone under the influence cannot give consent. I do not have a 'role in all this', was not at the rave/party, and I am not associated with the victim or alleged attackers or any witnesses. From what I gather you are a PO divulging information about an ongoing investigation "She was given GHB. Possibly by one of the girls. The attack was pre-planned according to the evidence collected from social media sites."

I only take offence with the rush to judgment, just look at this thread for example. I also disagree with the tactic of going public with 'pictures and video going viral, spreading like wildfire' since now everybody in the world is aware the imagery is online they will go out and hunt for it.

A proper way of handling the situation is to reach out to facebook to use metadata analysis to seek out and disable all accounts that have accessed the photos/videos. Then attempt to get search warrants for all property associated with the accounts or at least the accounts that have uploaded, or shared url's of the imagery. Same day I would setup meetings at the schools of anyone involved of sending/transmitting and talk to them about the consequences of child pornography and educate them on the laws for it and rape.

Seriously!

Thanks for saying something... it was extremely hard to resist commenting on that. I couldn't even believe someone would be such a douche and make a comment like that. Sad thing is I bet that while he's the only one who posted it - he's probably not the only one who thought it or pursued it.

We don't have a Death Penalty in Canada. Nor does anyone who really thinks about it want a Death Penalty. The justice system is too easily abused to have people killed because we rushed to judgment. Take the case of Thomas Sophonow. There was an overly aggressive Crown Prosecutor, Dangerfield and a lazy Defense Attorney, Brodsky who decided to not press on doubtful evidence. The consequence was Thomas Sophonow spent years in jail for a crime he didn't, couldn't commit. A death penalty would have resulted in an inability to make him whole when the miscarriage was uncovered.

Putting information about the case out to the public is how we find the truth.
But do you think there was any information gained via going public that couldn't have been found via other means in this case? I think going public only caused increased exposure and unwanted attention for the victim. Maybe you think it may stop rapes in the future or would help to stop spread of the files. I highly doubt any information gained via 'social network sites' is of any use, its like the telephone game.

Seriously!

Actually, Facebook and Twitter are why all 7 rapists will be identified. Both companies have found it in their interest to identify the owners of the accounts involved.

Years ago, we wouldn't have had good pictures, from multiple angles of the people we are interested in. Nor, would we have quickly established which Shaw and Telus accounts were used to post the pictures.

I mentioned the Thomas Sophonow case. If you look at the evidence, he was convicted on twine. He was released and made whole because of DNA evidence that wasn't available back then.

The pursuit of justice will never be perfect, however there is much more certainty that we are prosecuting the right people when we have pictures and DNA.

The media coverage, the online discussion, the public awareness have all caused people that would be reluctant to directly speak to law enforcement to identify themselves.

Take you for example, you joined this site and posted twice on this case. You didn't join to discuss pooning, you didn't join to discuss the meaning of life. You joined and posted on this case. That makes you interesting.
I still doubt that anyone would talk about witnessing a rape openly on facebook/twitter.

Makes me interesting? Should I be on a vpn through a proxy chain? Not serious, I have nothing to hide. But I do prefer to keep my online identity far away from my offline.

.

I just came across this offer.

Doesn't have anything to do with this crime/gang rape but it is related to part of the discussion about the internet, so I figured I might as well add the link.

Maybe some of you will find it useful or know someone who will.. :)

I was disturbed reading about this initially.

But, then I watched the news and saw clips of the girl's school when she went back. Clips of some stupid, useless dysfunctional school therapist telling kids how to treat the girl upon return, and the FB pages in favor of and against.

Miss Bijou said it right when she said that we are a 'sociopathic society.' We want the news, and we want to hear about worse stories than our own. We don't want to care about other people.

I accept I am the same way. I watch A&E for Hoarders and Intervention prolly just for this reason.

I don't really like owning up to this, especially in print, online. But it is my truth.

My thoughts exactly; he claims to know nothing of the case, yet posted details that indicate otherwise.

"Sexual Asssault" is the legal term now instead of rape.
It is really stupid because it could include anything from a pat on the bum or unwanted kiss to rape.
To me rape is rape and should be described that way. "Sexual assault" sanitizes it.

If the guys are caught there will be no serious consequences. Our justice system doesn't give severe penalties, specially for young people who can be "rehabilitated".

We live in a western society and people still believe that the victim "must of done something to deserve it", in Haiti 35,000 women a year are raped, in parts of Africa - rape is a rite of manhood. In the Mideast, a woman's testimony is worth only half of a man's testimony and they stone the victim.

We were civilized, now we are not. How women and children are treated is the measure of civilization.
Al, I take issue something with something you wrote. The societies that routinely are classed with the worst for how they treat women have nothing to do with the Western societal tradition. The Middle East and tribal areas of Africa are prime examples. Middle East societies emphatically reject the Western tradition. It is societies based on the Western tradition that consistently provide the greatest protections to women. Are Western tradition societies perfect in this? Absolutely not, but they are many orders of magnitude better than the vast majority of non-Western tradition societies.

I believe the words of the sheriff right before that were "We'll give 'em a fair trial and a right smart hangin'"
