Craigslist has finally done away with Erotic Services category for US cities like SF and LA. More pressure from the State Attorney Generals and I guess CL is feeling the heat so the category is gone.

Originally they had changed the category to Adult and charged posters $ 10 per post plus you had to provide a valid phone number and CC. Scary.

Canada is next. It's only a matter of time

The Erotic category went away in the US about a year ago.

They created a new "Adult" section for ads that had formerly been placed in the Erotic. That morphed into a section with far fewer ads because of the charge, and in many cities the advertizers jumped over to the "Therapeutic" sid of the board. (Most AMP's in SF post in this section, quite a joke, really.)

Now when you log in you find that where the Adult tab had been, the word "cersored".

What will likely now happen is that there will be many more ads in the Therapeutic section until that is finally shut down.

As far as Canada goes, I say not to worry unless your equivalent to States' Atorneys General puts pressure on them. Until then, enjoy what you have now while you still have it.

Did you forget about the moderation team as well as the wonderful, cooperative membership?

Thats all we need is to have all of those " phoney " ads come onto the forum boards like this !!! Boooooooooooooooooooo.

We're kind up here in Canada so it wont disappear. We like everything lol. :p;)

On the other hand they'd have to pay to be on here so I think we're safe. :);)

What makes you think like this?

Let me tell you something, prostitution of any sort in US is illegal, except in a few states. However, only operation brothels or pimping is illegal in Canada, which makes sex AD LEGAL in here, so the CL erotic section will not be erased.

I watched this on US news today.

I wondered about the repercussions for Canada.

The whole story was kind of lame...it showed a reporter who posted an ad that 'might not even get posted cuz of wording' and then all of the calls that she recceived in the next 3 hours.

She was asking for names, and if that wasn't a warning cue, the ones that continued said their name was 'John.'

hee hee.

Also, if it costs 5-10 dollars to post an ad. I suppose this high price will weed out the pimps.

Oh another note, is anyone watching the house of reps and senate elections? That actually will have an impact, especially with 'Roe vs Wade.'

There has been huge rise of escort ads in US. " Life will find a way!", Jurassic Park.

The November elections will have no effect on Roe v Wade. Any change to it will be made through the Supreme Court.

However, a new law might be passed to amend part of that decision. Not likely with the minority party still having the power of the filibuster.

Apparently all pics from Victoria CL erotic services are on this erotic mugshots site and bitches of craigslist and other sites. I am not impressed. I read their terms of use and legal info. All you can do if you do not wish to be on there is email them with a link and ask them to remove your pics (which I have done.) Not long ago I found myself, my pics from my website, on cougarsofbc.com I was not happy I had no idea. I had heard about it thought I would check it out. Wow to my surprise I was on there advertising and I did not know. I tried to contact the person and could not get hold of him. So I was pissed off. I made a post on CL threatening him and letting others know as I had seen quite a few over 35 on their. I also threatened to have his site shut down and legal action for puting my info on his site without my knowledge or permission. He contated me with in 5 minutes of posting trying to tell me it is free advertising he was doing me a favour.. He took me off. Grrr. we as SP's do want to protect our families and be discreet but anyone it seems can take out pics and info and do what they wish. Anyone could type up cougars even children in search for cougar info (the animal) and come up with all kinds of sites and this one is one of them.
Grrr. that is my vent here. Think I feel better. I will no longer when I post in CL which is not to often anymore not use my picture. Damn people I tell you.
Thanks for letting me vent I guess you all did not have a choice.
I am ok now.
It is unfortunate how easy it is for someone to lift information from one site and put it on another. It is fortunate you did come across it before someelse did. I don't think of what you posted as a vent but rather as some useful information for the other ladies of the board.

Thank You Jim, actually I was venting. But re reading this, yes I suppose it is informative (is that a word?)
Where is Spermie to correct my spelling.
Spermie not required, it is indeed a word.

in·for·ma·tive (n-fôrm-tv)
adj.
Serving to inform; providing or disclosing information; instructive. :D

Heard on news 1130 today that RCMP is pushing for eliminating the erotic services here in canada.
We all know this now but how it was phrased in the report, it might be a reality. Where will all the micros end up advertising once this happens I wonder ?

If you now notice that in the states they have it colored in black written censored
and where will vanboy0 post his stalking of sabrina, justis and jim?

Next thing you know they'll be trying to shut down PERB! They should worry more about catching murderers and rapists!

Agreed. USA has different laws, and it has been a big deal on the news here. But, perhaps they didn't have enough shootings to report outside of Oakland. Gang wars are gang wars. Blah blah.

The main thing is that prostitution is illegal in the USA and being a prostitute is not illegal in Canada. I don't think Harper is willing to spend the time to change all of the law on the issue. In a minority government, there are more productive ways to spend your time. No doubt he will let his caucus do some saber rattling in ridings where the candidate feels that they will gain support, but that is meaningless as far as the state of the law is concerned.
