A young Canadian guy goes out on his first date, takes the girl to an ice rink where he displays that he is a very poor skater (so un-Canadian). So, she dumps him. Was she looking for a guy who might strike it rich in the NHL?

Her bad.

That young guy is now on course to be the MVP in the National League: Joey Votto, from Toronto.

And in a few years, if he continues along the same course he appears to be heading, he is in line for a $100,000,000+ contract.

Try to get that in the NHL.

His story is an interesting read and he is on the cover of the current Sports Illustrated. Plays for Cinncinatti.

Do you know for certain that he was dumped for being a poor skater? Could be other reasons. Maybe she still wouldn't be interested in him now. Or am I missing the gist of the story?

No...there's lots of great ladies out there.
Great as in free no strings attached sex {i.e. amongst the small percentage of women who are sex maniac sluts} ?

Or boring chick flick type dating?

No, until experience proves otherwise, i have to assume all Venusians are gold diggers & all Martians are pimps.

You won't get much experience to prove otherwise on the downtown east side or sex trips to thailand.

I guess not, and as i don't "date" women, anyway, even though lots of SWs want to be my GF.
Even if i did date, one can never be sure she is not after your money, unless her name is Paris
Hilton or Angelina Jolie. Even if she were not after it to start, there are many cases where a SO
has turned on the guy and drained him of everything he has later. Human nature is not to be
trusted IMO, & i include myself in that. So i just assume they are at heart all gold diggers,
whether they know or accept that or not.

When we divorced, my wife and I split the entirety down the middle. This really was her wishes and her side is far more financially viable. I became richer from the divorce.

Here's the kicker! She could have easily kept me in the court system with much of my finances locked. She had much proof (financial as well) of my infidelity, and I didn't have proof of our "understanding".

There are many women out there who are not gold diggers.
IOW the rich or richer than you few. No need to dig for gold when you already have it.

This sounds more like "Well, I'm such a great guy, the only reason she dumped me was because I was a poor skater". He probably smells ;)
He also suffers from depression issues, which can be a nightmare on it's own. Hopefully he keeps it under control, he seems like a good guy.

Alot of your posts are so negative. I am sorry you feel thjat way about women. So since women are all gold diggers and you don't date them I would hate to know what you are like as a client.
You know what not all but some men are gold diggers too. and yes not all but some women are.

But there are plenty of good men out there let me know people if you know any one day I would like one. and there are plenty of good woman . Money is not everything. I am far from materialistic that is my view.
Like i said, it's human nature i don't trust, so it's equally as much men as women.
Women are actually the gentler, kinder, sweeter of the two, so in a way i prefer
their company. But as i find much more in common with men, i tend to spend more
time with them.

Not all women consciously date guys for their money, but in my position i have to
assume any stranger of the opposite sex that i meet could potentially be like that.
But the reason i don't "date" women is that i've never met one that was into the
things i'm interested in: action movies, gambling, porn, hookers, making out &
having sex all day long. Does such a woman even exist? The idea of dating a
guy with such a combination of interests may be contrary to their nature. And
with my lifestyle it may be unfair to date any lady, anyway, without revealing
all of this to her first. Are there any that wouldn't run away from me as soon
as they heard that?

As for what i am like as a client to SP's, i can tell you that a very high percentage
are pleased with me. This includes my personality, hygiene, generosity, clothing,
cologne and looks. I am constantly getting SWs asking to be my GF. Although i
never have taken them up on that, this kind of girl might be a good bet if i were
interested in that kind of relationship. A cuddle buddy, kiss bunny, sex maniac
type of thing would be the best i can reasonably hope for.

You say it's human nature you don't trust Lenny but what is "human nature? Your premise reminds me of the one I used to use to justify capitalism over socialism - that's it's human nature to be competitive, to want to accumulate wealth at the expense of others. In other words, survival of the fittest. Then I read something interesting by Noam Chomsky. He pointed out that it's also human nature to be be kind, loving, generous and sharing. Oscar Wilde may have had you in mind when he said a cynic is a man who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing.

In general, men need to be "civilized" and women do the "civilizing". It's in the interests of women to do the civilizing as she requires a man with whom she can make babies, who will earn a living so she can bring up the children and who will protect her so she can nurture. Sounds old-fashioned? I used to tell my daughters when they were teenagers and young women to find a man like a wolf who will circle and protect them. I said it's less important whether I liked them and even whether they were "nice guys". They laughed, of course. "Dad is so old-fashioned." Nonetheless, they found men like what I described. I am at peace. And incidentally, I really like and respect my son-in-laws. My line will go on.

Do I sound old-fashioned, Lenny; actually, I'm primitive. There will be a woman who sees your inner value, your survival value to her in terms of bringing up the children you will create together. When she finds you (and you won't even know what hit you), she will put into place a longterm plan to domesticate you. You will fight it but her determination and commitment will overwhelm you. That's the way it was for me when I was younger and I'm betting that's the way it will be for you. That's the way it is for most men. Oh, and one more thing: In spite of your protestations, you will like it. In fact, eventually, you won't be able to do without it.

So a woman rejects a guy before he strikes gold and gets labeled a gold digger... what do you label a woman who decides to stay with such a man? A gold digger?

I feel bad for anyone whose self worth is defined by their net worth, and for those who think that financial security is all they can offer. Some people are really missing out...

p.s. celebrity or not that guy is cute.

I take my philosophy from Blade:

Little girl: Why can't you just be nice?

Blade: Because the world isn't nice.

H

Thanks for proving Blade's point ;

I don't see it as a "problem", but as a realistic approach to life in the real world.
I didn't prove his point lenny, he has no valid point, it's a cop out. You're a negative guy and that's really what it comes down to. I'm not gonna argue with you about it, cause really I don't care enough. Why waste time on people like yourself when there are tons of other positive and happy people out there making a difference?

Hope you and Blade are happy together not being nice:)
