You left out the new guy, whatshisname.

I guess the answer really depends on whether you see batman as the dark sinister anti-hero type character, or the twisted psychopath with issues (michael keaton) , or the campy hetero-challenged smart ass (adam west)

I'm just waiting for them to completely screw it up and have Ben Afleck play batman.

Christian Bale.

Bale is probably the best of the lot, but that's hardly a glowing endorsement. Didn't like his dreadful attempt to deepen his voice while in "bat" costume.... bit weak.

Michael Keaton was okay.

George Clooney and Val Kilmer weren't awful but bad scripts and a really bad director (booooo to Joel Schumacher) really pulled those two movies down.

I agree with Bale's performance: good overall; but I didn't like his fake batman voice.

My favourite Batman was actually from the animated film, "Mask of the Phantasm", which is also a pretty good film on it's own. I really liked how the voice actor used the diifferent voices to highlight the differences between Bruce Wayne the persona, Bruce Wayne in private, and emphasize the point of how the former was the "mask" while Batman was his true identity. I kind of liked how Keaton tried to do something similar in his performances and maybe other actors tried to do the same; but I've always felt that the actor from Phantasm did it the best, IMO.

Agreed. Kevin Conroy did a great job providing the voice in many animated projects!

Should've included Christian Bale long before Clooney and Kilmer but i'm going with the sentimental factor and picking Mr. West.

Most definitely the best batman. I picked up a batman dvd with 6 animated episodes by different directors with Conroy voicing all of them. Brilliant stuff. Puts the movies to shame.

Christian Bale is probably not the best but he was at the right place at the right time when everything blended well from a good Nolan script to casting to marketing. Dark Knight ended up being the best grossing Batman movie of all time. Same as Daniel Craig in James Bond, we wasn't the best ( could be Sean or Roger ) but the last two movies in the Bond franchise were the most profitable. :)

This is the second poll I've done about who's better and twice I've forgotten an actor in both. Sorry must be suffering from CRS.

I always had a crush on Michael Keaton.
But the new guy is looking pretty damned good too..
I thought Christian Bale was yummy... then I finally got around to seeing American Psycho, and damn it, I cannot look at the guy anymore, he creeps me out!

Yeah I remember watching American Psycho and thinking that Christian Bale would be an excellent Bruce Wayne, and he proved me right.

Bale is my favorite. If you read the comics, some characters have commented about the gravelly voice of Batman, so I've no problem with Bales interpretation of how the gravelly voice would sound.

Finally had a chance to watch this. It's excellent on every level! Great character designs, beautiful animation, fantastic voice work (especially Jensen Ackles as Red Hood and John Dimaggio as The Joker -- I didn't think I could ever like anyone's take on The Joker better than Mark Hamil's but Dimaggio gives him a pointed viciousness that really works. Also really enjoyed Neil Patrick Harris as Nightwing.) lots of action and a very compelling story. Any Batman fans should not miss this. I also highly recommend it to anyone that isn't a rabid Batman fan.
