I still enjoy this show but it's getting a bit long in the tooth for me especially the past 2 seasons.
I thought the first season was extremely uneven and not particularly focussed. But there was always enough there that was interesting that kept me tuning in. The second season was definitely much improved over the first. Storylines were more interesting and the characters felt like they had a clear direction. I'm not exactly sure how I feel about the current season yet but it has been interesting and I'm wondering where it's going. I'm actually more interested in the Eric Northman storyline at this point than any of the Bill and Sookie stuff. Not sure what that says about how things are playing out.
I concur, the only thing I really liked about the second season was the Eric and Godric storylines. I got tired of the Maryann part long before she finally met her maker.
I've always liked Michelle Forbes, so I will admit that may have been a factor in why my interest in that storyline was held until the end of that season. But even then, in my opinion, all of the characters had a more clearly focussed direction in their story arcs in season 2 whereas in season 1, it all seemed so aimless and without a clear direction. And yes, I agree with you that the Eric and Godric stuff last year was quite good. I also really liked the sub plot with Jason at the anti-vampire Christian commando camp.
