Last night I had a two hour gig lined up with visiting Ottawa SP Monique Matheson. I have always wanted to see her and I missed her last time she was in town a few years ago. She called me upon arrival when her flight arrived, just as she said she would to confirm the appointment, and gave me the room number. I arrived at her Polo Park area hotel 10 minutes early. As I waited in my car, I received an e-mail via my cell..... "ok not sure where you are but I'm changing rooms so call me." OK, I call her cell and there's no answer. No voice mail either. I call a couple more times with the same result. Then I e-mail..... "trying to call you but you don't answer." So I go to her room, knock on the door.... no answer. The restaurant was close by so I ask the waitress if there's a house phone nearby. She let me use their desk phone. I call her room number.... no answer. Then I go to the front desk and ask if the she changed rooms. The answer was no, she is still registered at the room number she gave me. She called the room and again there was no answer. I try her cell again, and again. Now her phone is turned off. Then I receive an e-mail "Don't know what all the confusion is. I'm trying to reach u." I reply..... "Just give me the room number." No reply. Again I e-mail after 10 minutes. "What is your room number?" I try to call over and over and the phone is turned off. Come on.... she had my cell number. She didn't reply to my numerous e-mails and she would not receive my calls. Finally after waiting another 10 minutes I e-mail her "OK, fine. I am out of here!"
Here's my theory of what happened. Monique is touring with her friend Erika. They perform duos. I figure they had a request for a duo and rather than do the integral thing, like call me and request a postponement, she plays games with me. Had she called me and requested another date, I would have been disappointed, but I would have accomodated this. This is not a professional way to act. Maybe it was the full moon (actually not quite full last night) but there really is no excuse for this behavior. Therefore I see it as my role to inform my fellow pooners.
Do me a favour and don't patronize this one, however gorgeous she may appear.
