You would think Vancouver would be such a natural place for this event....perhaps hold it down in the West End.....I think Vancouver's gays would love an event where near nekkid men are 'grappling' with each other.....being all macho and stuff.....

99 % of the fans that watch the UFC are the same type of guys that would start a bar room brawl.

Now imagine, having 18,000 of them packed into one small area. Now, take alcohol into the mix and the adreniline of the UFC as well.

That can't be a good combination in the eyes of the VPD.

BC is just retarded on so many levels this is just another example. Come to alberta cause a UFC in edmonton or calgary would sell out in less then 1hr easy and with none of the stupid that comes from dealing with the retarded monkeys that make up the BC government.

To me it would be a good thing for Vancouver economically for all the business it would bring. Tickets/ concession sales at the venue, wages paid to the people working, bars/restaurants that people go before/after the event, hotel rooms for people coming from out of town etc. I mean if Montreal can do it why can't we?

One of the arguments against it, which was the same argument used to stop the MMA Expo out in Abbotsford, is that it would attract gang members. So you're telling me a motorcycle show doesn't attract Hells Angels or members of other biker gangs? Lets cancel all motorcycle shows!!

And I'm sure a gang banger has never gone to a Canucks game or boxing match in Vancouver!!

Maybe the cops should focus on busting the bangers for drugs/guns/murders and let the people of Vancouver enjoy some entertainment and economic activity. And please note, I'm not a big UFC fan, but I know with it's popularity around here they should hold events here at least once or twice a year!

Its crazy that they are blocking it. The economic benefits for the even are well documented and the sport itself is no more dangerous the boxing. The card was actually looking a bit better since Tito had to out of it too...

Ya i can see the ufc agreeing to no profits to bring one of the most popular sports in the world to BC. Will the stupidity of these retards ever reach a cap ? Any UFC event will sell out in less then 1hr in any major city in canada hell even in GP if they brought it here the tickets would sell out in minutes.

MMA is the fastest growing sport in the world and fighters and clubs are springing up everywhere large cities like vancouver calgary and edmonton have huge fan base to not bring these venues to the fans is just obscene

I don't think the province is talking about taking UFC's profits. The province is talking about taking the profits that the city would have made, if it had taken the risk associated with hosting the event.

The city is a little paranoid about the risks..... it can't be any bigger than hosting a boxing match, or the Molson Indy.

i doubt the VPD is worried about that 99%, they are more probably worried about Hubba, LAG and ITB all showing up in the same place at the same time, in drag. Imagine the catfight that would cause.:D

I have been to see live UFC events 3 times now in Vegas.
Not once did I ever see a fight in the stands, or outside the venue.

I think one of the reasons is the price. It cost LOTS to see it live.
I don't know if they even have an idea of prices for GM place, but if I were to guess.
I would say $1000+ for the floor, $500-$750 for lower bowl, and probably $200-$300 for upperbowl.

Most guys that like to start trouble will just go to the bar and watch for free.
