Men's Day

International Men's Day is an international event celebrated on November 19 every year. It was inaugurated in 1999 in Trinidad and Tobago and was supported by the United Nations[1], and received in principal support from men's groups in USA, Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean.[2] Speaking on behalf of UNESCO, Director of Women and Culture of Peace Ms. Ingeborg Breines said of IMD: “This is an excellent idea and would give some gender balance.” She added that UNESCO was looking forward to cooperating with IMD organisers.[1]

The objectives of celebrating an International Men's Day include focusing on men's and boy's health, improving gender relations, promoting gender equality, and highlighting positive male role models.[2][3][4] It is an occasion for men to highlight discrimination against them and to celebrate their achievements and contributions, in particular for their contributions to community, family, marriage, and child care.[

your mom says hi.
i'm all for women's day.

saw a woman with a sign though down at commercial skytrain that kinda rubbed me the wrong way.

it said "stop MEN'S violence against women."

i'm not all up in arms or anything but a sign like that just kinda seems to lump us all together into a bunch of wife beating rapists.

how about we just stop violence against all people. or just stop violence. that to me would be a better sign.

also it may not be as prevalent but men do suffer from domestic abuse as well, and when it happens we have fewer options to protect us, if it gets reported at all. police usually just laugh it off. i was down on granville one saturday night and there was a young couple who had had a few drinks having a verbal altercation. well the women hauls off and slaps him pretty hard. the guy did nothing in retaliation.

the police saw the incident and all they seemed to care about was if he had touched her. not weather he wanted to press charges for assault. they just kept asking her again and again if she was sure that he didn't touch her. now to her credit she told the truth but all she would have had to say was yes he did and its off to the drunk tank for him.

either way, i think this day is great to look at everything that women do to make life worth living for us and for men to show our appreciation.

perhaps i'm reading too much into that sign but it just kinda pissed me off a little.
