Who here hates Christmas?

I do!!!

It's the worst holiday of the year. I just want to commiserate before being overwhelmed by all the sheeple wishing each other all that Christmas crap! The only good thing about it is the death to retail sales in January when everything becomes extremely cheap.

I wish it was celebrated like Easter, one day off but largely forgotten.

What is xmas?

I am not religious so all the Jesus stuff is just silly to me.
I think it is also silly to christians, as I have noticed over the years how they celebrate xmas.

Its basically for kids. Greedy greedy kids. A friend at work showed me her 14 year old sons "list" as she had some questions for me about the stereo he wanted.....the total value of this list was about 6 months worth of his mothers gross salary. I wanted to photocopy it, but she wouldn't let me. So for this mother and child family.....xmas is about getting as much toys as he can for the boy.....for the mother its a month of stress finding something her son wont cry about.....then bills.

I ask "why not get him something cheaper, or a giftcard to bestbuy for a reasonable amount?"
"Oh last year his father got him a new snowboard and boots, and took him and 2 of his friends to Whistler for the week"

For the rest of my friends, its basically buying stuff for fussy kids. For my married buddies, its finding a gift for the wife, that is of high enough value to satisfy her.

I love Christmas as a secular day to give people I like gifts.
But you can give people you like gifts on any day. Having a day to celebrate some arbitrary thing makes it a day that people are obliged to give each other things. It's the obligation that takes away the spirit of generosity.

I hate feeling obliged to give a gift, especially if there is no real reason for it. What a waste of my money, and a waste of my generosity that I would otherwise be happy to feel when I am moved to make the other person feel good.

I guess it just depends on what Christmas means to you.
For those of you who hate what Christmas has become I don't blame you. I just shake my head when I hear and see all of the people out there who get so caught up in the rush and the consumerism that the holiday has become. I know people who get so stressed out at Christmas it is ridiculous because they are so concerned that they HAVE to do this or buy that. I was like this once too. The holiday was a big rush and was over before one knew it.

A few years ago I made a conscious decision that I was going to return to the true meaning of Christmas. It's not about getting a new car or I-Pad. It's about spending quality time with those you love and giving to those less fortunate.
My ex and I have never showered our daughter with expensive gifts. Yes this year I did buy her a nice set of head phones which cost me over $200.00 but other than that and a new sweater and a scarf that's it.
We get up and go to church, I make breakfast and she opens her gifts. We go to a homeless shelter where I serve dinner and she plays the piano, we go skating on Christmas, we have dinner with a few family members and in the evening often go for a drive to look at the lights.

I used to hate the holidays but now I love them.

Not a fan. Not since I was a about 15.

'Christmas' is a sickening orgy of consumerism.

There. It sounds negative but it's the sad truth.

Essentially.

But...... kids aren't born greedy. Parents can be thanked for that. If parents go overboard and make Christmas an orgy of gifts and toys kids can pre-order, then receive for no actual reason and without having to lift a finger for it, its pretty obvious they're going to end up with greedy kids.

I also hate Christmas for what it has become and I agree with all the replies posted on here.
When people tell me that I have no Christmas spirit and that Christmas only comes once a year, my reply to them is that EVERY day in the year only comes once a year!

Personally I could care less about the "presents" side of it, and if I ever get anything anymore. For me, it's all about my child, and the happiness it brings them, and more than that, it's about being with my extended family. Not a fan of the commercialism whatsoever, and it sickens me that they start the Xmas Machine going before Halloween lately...

I wonder what Xmas feels like in a sunny and warm place. Must be nice to be rich and have a winter home.

I'm more 'meh' about the entire thing. There is a sort of morbid curioiusity that I have with the frantic consumerism out there but I'm finding the people, at least people I know, are just tired of it now.

I'm just asking for a turkey and stuffing ( maybe a ham ). A chance to spend some time with family and/or friends becasue most of us have a few days off. And of course a few quiet moments to reflect on the year.

Mainly the turkey.

Dd I mention stuffing?

The lesson there is shallow people raising shallow kids.

As a christmas gift take them down to a homeless shelter to help man the food lines.

I love Christmas as a secular day to give people I like gifts. That's where it ends. If Jesus was real, he was born in the bloody spring time so I'm not celebrating his birthday in December (as it was really only placed in December to overshadow Yule, etc al).

Christmas these days has so little (if anything) to do with the "religious" holiday I'm surprised good Christians can even hold their headup with their Christmas tree/Santa/Deer/Snowmen shit, while they have no nativity scene or anything they're claiming to believe in.
Jesus was real, but the "birthday" has more to do with pagan traditions around the winter solstice than anything else.

I grew up in the other hemisphere. It would be 40 degrees in the shade and we would still go through with all the trappings of a "winter" christmas :)

I like Christmas, all my siblings are grown up so we don't exchange gifts anymore. We all chip in & take turns with a huge Christmas dinner & enjoy each others company, catching up with each others lives.
Merry Christmas every one, YES I SAID MERRY CHRISTMAS. I hate & won't say happy holidays.

Something I prefer to do on Christmas is wall everyone off and spend it alone. Yes, accept a few calls in the morning, but then turn off the phone the rest of the day.

Stay home or go to a favourite hangout and be by myself, read a good book or play a computer game or surf the net.
