I pay about 5 bucks a month extra for the Shaw High Speed Extreme, regular cost is 10 bucks on top of the high speed. Get a discount because I own the modem. I find its sad when I find regular high speed slow lol

Well to the age of computers

I am in the same boat and I am thinking of upgrading to XTreme, but I have to investigate whether it is actually a speed boost or if it is just some IT trickery.

As with all things related to computers though, initially it all seems really fast then as you get used to it, it feels a lot slower.

Also, it'll depend on how "clean" your computer is, if you are finding it slowing down, it might be time to do a clean up.

Edit: Just read your speed and that is about right. They advertise 7000kbps, so what you have is good. Did you use the Shaw speedtest? Or did you try one of the unbiased ones such as www.dslreports.com?

Actually I just canceled extreme and went back to regular about a month ago after having the extreme for about 14 months.

There is a definate difference in hi-speed lite though. Thats way to slow.

hi speed light for telus I know is just graphics compression I used to do dial up tech support.

High speed light is just a waste of time and money lol

Did you give up the extreme for any reason? Do you think it's worth it? I do download a lot of ...erm..."stuff", so you could say I am a heavy user.

you didnt hear it from me, but if you do a lot of downloading, shaw has an "unwritten" rule of 30GB cap on downloading.

Extreme for me is only five bucks more from regular and I dont have any problems with it

Yah, I remember they used to have a cap, but now they've posted on their site that regular has a cap of 60GB and Xtreme has a 100GB cap.

I'll admit, I download a lot, but not 60GB worth. Perhaps not even 30GB worth. Though, I wouldn't be surprised if, when you hit the unwritten rule of 30GB, they start to throttle your speed down.

I haven't had a warning from them in years, so perhaps I should test this "limit"

Is it worth it, ahhh I say try it if your all horny about it. Thats what I did and just ended up throttling back to reg speed and pocketing the extra dough. I'm always trying to streamline my expenses.

Yah, that's pretty much my attitude as well. I like to streamline my expenses as well. That way I have more to spend on...cough...cough...other services.

My 2 cents - the Xtreme or Ultra or whatever they're selling it as is just a money grab. I seriously doubt that your connection is acting as a bottle neck. Well unless you're below 600 - 700 K/second. For you to get your value out of the Xtreme, Shaw would have to be cacheing everything you're viewing. So your link to shaw is Xtreme - doesn't mean much cause everything beyond that is limited at the other end. Peer to peer or bit torrent..... no one dedicates more than a couple hundred K for upload - and that's for everyone connecting to their system and not just you. I think you're better keeping the couple extra bucks/month in your pocket. Spend it on the DVD so you don't have to download it.

By god, Shaw has doubled their monthly limits. However DLing speed during peak hours (evening) is less half of what it is on 8 am on a Saturday morning. Using Xtreme, about 900 KB/sec on a Saturday morning, about 350 KB/sec right now.
