The reason the situation is so bad in the US is because they refuse to raise revenue to pay for their expenses, other than by debt financing. On top of that they refuse to cut expenses as well.

We all know how well that works in our private lives, the same thing will happen to government eventually.

I'm south of the border, whats the deal? Its BADDDDDD in the states, I think 48 out of 50 states is in the red. So how is real life up there for you guys?
Well, pretty much everyone I know has a job, which is good. But saving money has become very accepted, maybe even a bit "cool." I myself am making about 20% less than I was pre-recession, dollars to dollars, so that is even less when factoring in inflation.

Speaking of inflation, I bought a little micro USB cable yesterday and it was $20! Holy shit :(

I think Immigrants from poorer countries no longer view the USA as a prime target. Its Canada or Australia 1st tier. I really dont think we are ever going to get out of our 100+ trillion dollar debt. I see so many bad situations at my job, people making something like 23-25 per hour check to check and eating frozen food for lunches and cup of noodles daily cause 5-7 bucks for lunch is too much. And so many old people moaning and groaning cause they have no money to retire. I tune them out by cranking up the music on my smartphone.

What the article you linked to showed was that rich in Canada are getting richer and the discrepancy between the rich and poor is growing. We haven't yet caught up to the States, in terms of inequality, but we're certainly making a good effort to try and catch up.
