What the hell are STD Rates?

Now I know when people say the Chick is at STD Rates is around 100 - 160 style.
But is it proven 100 - 160 have more STD than 300-600?

I don't see how a 300 has less chance than a 160. I can only see the stigmatization of this 100-160.
But if anyone can enlighten me

The theory is that the lower priced providers see more clients and are exposed to more people and therefore have a greater likelihood of contracting something.

It makes sense to me, though I'm guessing there are SPs in all rate ranges who play very safe and ones who don't.

I thought STD rates mean "standard rates''. Nothing to do with the acronym STD (Sexually Transmitted Disease).
