I am researching the Canadian sex/pleasure industry for a television documentary being produced by a top award winning filmmaker in Vancouver. The documentary will explore the issue of the legalization and normalization of this underground industry.

I’m looking for outgoing SP’s who are willing to talk candidly with me about their business. I’m looking for a range of experienced women, newbie’s, and women who are hoping to get into the business themselves. I even want to meet the people who work with SP’s (Drivers, etc).

If you are open about what you do, and have something to say about this industry, then I want to hear from you. For now I just want to meet and talk to as many of you as I can, but ultimately I will be looking for a few women who would be open to the idea of appearing on camera. Those who appear in the film will be compensated for their participation.

I look forward to hearing from you!

I sent tvgal the following PM:

You may want to contact fred zed (board admin) regarding your search. There have been similar requests that have been proven to be bogus and for the protection of the SP's fred may want to verify your identity and that you are infact legit.
I'd suggest that until fred weighs in the SP's be careful.

I can't remember how Derek announced the one he knew was doing a documentary but you'd think a legitimate one would give their full identity and contact info. And even then, I would double check to make sure the company's legit before meeting them. They would know that you need something like professional references before trusting them. Its not just for your personal safety but also if you can trust them with the info you give them. Sorry if this sounds too motherly - BUT be careful with this one!!!

Be very cautious! They could edit an interview to make you look like a fool and destroy your anonymity.

Yes... be very cautious

This is an exerpt of an email that was sent a sp friend of mine and then forwarded to me.

Please read it and then decide if yiou want to trust someone who, so far, has told us nothing of themselves, their production company, or where this production is to be aired

Subject: Fwd: warning of 2 brits filming in van

"They lied to me and went about doing business in a sneaky way that was high pressure and dishonest. They promised that all material shot of me would be under MY control and that I could view it right after shooting but when done shooting and they had the tapes, they became demanding and uncooperative then stating my identity on their film was now their property to do as they wished..."

"They were dishonest about what they were doing as far as shooting just me and the program type and what would be shown. They said it would not be shown in the US and Canada, but that wasn't true cause as they said later to me, the paper didn't mean anything therefore for the right price they would sell it to any network... "

"These two people Rita DXXXXXX and Nick HXXX try to be your best friend... they know how to feed into what you want to hear and getting you to think they care about your best interests... "

"Please avoid them at all costs as this is a no win situation for you (not being paid to do it and then exposing yourself to the world that is forever on tape for them to do as they wish...)"
I don't know if the person who started this thread is either of the two people names above, but as has been stated, a reputable production company would at the very least give you a company name and most likely a way for you to contact thembeyond repliying to a thread on a review board....

Seems odd they joined the site, made one post requesting people for this. Combined with the fact that there have been similar problems with productions, I'd definately use EXTREME caution.
Nice to see Grav and SWguy are looking out for the ladies. Kudo's to you both.

Legitimacy

Hi everyone,

You are all sooo right to ask for some indication of legitimacy - and I'm glad you've all brought it up.

The production company in question is DocTV - check out their website at www.doctv.com. They are a very reputable Vancouver company with a very long history of making ethical and fun documentaries.

I've been hired to reseach this film for them, and I am a producer myself. You can learn more about me on my website at www.marsentertainment.ca. I'd be glad to answer any questions, and I can promise that we will be up front with everyone about the documentary and the use of footage - BEFORE you agree to participate so there will be no surprises.

but at this point, I'm just looking to talk to some of you. Decisions about being on camera or not, can be made later. I have so much to learn about this business - as you can all see!

Cheers,

Just thought I'd pop a note on the board that I contacted Marsha to see what it was all about and after a few emails exchanged we spoke on the phone.

What was originally to be an hour call went to 1.5 hours because we just couldn't stop chatting ;). It was great and it sounds like they will be putting together a very interesting documentary; very much not the "Life of the $20 Back-Alley BJ Crack Ho" but more of a "Hey, there is legitimate business going on here, with normal people even. Why is it shunned? Why isn't it legal? What would happen if it were? Who are these women if they are not drug-addicted, spaced-out, diseased scum of society? Could they be mothers? Do they buy milk? Do they *look* like SPs all the time? Could they have actually had normal childhoods? What's the draw/impetus for a woman to do this?"

I guess you could say it will be almost a "The SPs Among Us" kind of piece.

The exact theme has not been solidified; but that is part of what Marsha's research is right now.
