What's all this fuss about Vancouverman?
Most of vancouverman's pics link to a limited number of sites that already feature thousands of similar pics. VM's approach is admittedly, a form of plagiarism, that while it is done in an innocent manner, does clutter the front pages; for some anyway. And, it is easy to conclude that it does cramp the style of some chronic thread bumpers. Maybe this is getting under their skin???
When I see a pic that I find interesting - and quite frankly, I really don't have time to scroll through the plethora of threads he or anyone else puts up, I right-click the subject pic and copy its URL address into my browser, leading me to explore what he might have missed, that I would find interesting.
A reasonable and courteous approach that might be less offensive to "some" might be a thread featuring his latest finds accompanied with a link directing the reader (or viewer in this case) to that website, rather than creating individual threads that often point to the same place. Vancouverman is very enthusiastic, and is merely trying to share his latest find... But doing so, is entirely his prerogative.
With 19,000+ posters in here, we're bound to encounter little challenges like this once in a while. But, in the final analysis, we could fare much worse than Vancouverman. Think of VM as a publisher. I think we are demonizing his approach a bit much. If all his threads came from individual posters, would it have the same impact, and generate the same reaction it has in this case? I doubt it...
Spend some time over on Terb; there are tens of thousands of threads there, and the board is like a virtual quicksand. In fact, you'll find any threads started there swallowed up pretty quick. You'll have to be a lot more interesting than here on Perb to stand out in that crowd. But it does force you to be original to gain a measure of recognition.
Sober up guys, it's a nice day outside...
