Vancouver Sun Making Up the News?

In December of 2006, the Vancouver Sun reported on the massage parlour raids that occurred in the Lower Mainland. They reported that:

"But IBET Cpl. Norm Massie said the investigation is ongoing and some charges are expected, though he could not say when.

Massie said everyone arrested in the raids has been released, including the women who declined government assistance of emergency shelter.

He said while the women all were in Canada legally either as citizens or permanent residents, they still could have been exploited and used in the sex trade against their will."

However, they have changed their story, with no acknowledgement that the story has changed:

http://www.canada.com/vancouversun/news/story.html?id=ee2a846c-dcc9-48eb-b076-2068042228a1&k=54193

"One of the accused, (Pinky) Zhe Nai Xu, who was arrested as a result of the raids, will be appearing in provincial courts in Richmond, Vancouver, Surrey, and Coquitlam during the next few weeks.

He was among 10 persons accused of keeping a bawdy house. Originally more than 100 persons were arrested in the suspected brothels. Many of those were found to be in the country illegally as a result of human trafficking."

So what's the deal? Were they wrong the first time, or are they making stuff up this time? It's kind of hard to trust the media when the news keeps changing. They have changed the story without making any acknowledgement of it. Does this remind you of anything?

Hint: Oceania is at war with Eurasia. The next day, they are at war with Eastasia. They have never been at war with Eurasia, it's always been Eastasia.

If you still don't get it, I'm trying to tell you that the fact that the news is always changing is very Orwellian.

It's incredibly disturbing.

Really? Then why haven't the police charged anyone with human trafficking?

Trafficking humans is a HUGE deal, something that everyone is concerned about. It has much greater penalties than bawdy house charges, and would send a much stronger message.

But the only charges that have been laid, an entire year after the raid, are all bawdy house charges.

Hmm..

Don't know, I can only imagine there isn't enough evidence to do so. Or perhaps the police think there's enough evidence but the prosecutors disagree. Or perhaps they can't get anyone to testify on the governments behalf, either because the woman are scared, or they are in a better place then would be the case if they were deported back to their country of origin.
It is my understanding that they don't deport the victims of human trafficking.

In all probability, this is a case of the Sun not doing proper fact-checking. Sloppy journalism.

In human trafficking cases the Ringleaders are usually overseas, and virtually untouchable by the RCMP. Most of the girls involved would have been given fake/stolen passports and I.D. so the people running the MP's can deny knowledge of any trafficking or immigration issues. All LE here can do is make their life tougher by shutting MP's down and running them through the court process on charges like these, but the Human Trafficking issue will continue.

The difference in the two stories is likely because LE hadn't had time to confirm the true identity and legal status of the girls involved. As the first story clearly stated, "the investigation is ongoing".

here's my 2 cents. the first one was about the AMP's swan lake etc.. . Pinky ran a Bawdy house more like a micro. She used a house when she was arrested. And kept her girls more like a pimp. So it night seem like they were related stories.
