Uhhhh....what? -11C next week?

sounds like a perfect opportunity to spend time in an inviting, warm and comforting place for 60 or 120 minutes at a time…..I suspect the sporting populace will be at home or work while adventuresome types are trekking their way through inclement weather to their favourite rendezvous…..
Since when did we Canadians become such a bunch of wimps?!
I know all of you out in Lotusland are used to more moderate winter temperatures but come on.
We had a big storm here in Wpg this week and all people do is bitch and complain. So what! Sure you have to shovel some snow. Sure it might take you 90 minutes to get to work when it is normally a 15 minute drive. And now it is supposed to get cold (Minus 20's to 30"s) next week and a new round of whining. You go out a buy a good heavy coat, a good pair of boots and a toque and get on with life.
This is what makes us Canadians. We descended from people who came here and braved the fierce elements in order to make a better life.
If you biggest problem is having to put on a scarf and some mits to run out to Starbucks and get you daily Frapamochachochachino with extra virgin light goats milk and sprinkle of organically grown fair trade nutmeg, jsut think of your ancestors out there hauling hay or gathering firewood in -30 C.
We all need to toughen up a bit, stop whining and celebrate winter more.

I totally agree! I'm so sick of hearing about this big storm and I even heard the bridges are going to be shut down? Alex Fraser! It's insane. But the biggest problem is the multiple accidents on every road and being stuck in traffic for hours because of it, I think that is what is scaring people and also the big ice blocks falling on the windshields from the bridges. All of these things cost people money and time, its not really the cold that's bothering them. I don't know why people don't invest in snow tires, I get there are broke people out there but come onnn, I bet those are the ones who are getting into all the accidents and holding up everyone.

I prefer just snow, the deathly quiet air with just snow falling, no wind or rain. Is that how it is on the central area? BBB is probably right maybe the pacific air is worse. I'm a noob I've never travelled anywhere else in Canada except lower BC lmao, but I've been overseas and in the USA.
Having grown up on the prairie, spent time in Halifax, Ottawa and deciding to spend the remainder on Vancouver Island, I can say that us left coasters are wimps when it comes to winter weather. But in fairness, if I have to shovel snow, the last place I want to shovel it is here on the coast. It is wet and heavy. It also forms a layer of ice on the road lubricated by watery slush. Combine that with people who have little to no experience driving in snow, you end up with chaos.
So, i'm going to stay inside with some coffee and Bailey's and wait for spring thaw. Oh, that will likely be the weekend.

So I hear driving in the snow is very bad today, but walking in the snow is a dream compared to the last few days, the new snow completely covered the dangerous ice and its so much easier to walk wherever and run and not worry about slipping and falling. However I heard from a truck driver, and 2 other small car drivers that the snow was terrible to drive in, I am assuming they do not have snow tires. I have seen much much worse snow than this in my life time and never this much complaining. They are making it sound like 6 feet of ice has been dumped all over the roads...what the heck is going on! I personally don't drive (I have anxiety so I prefer to stay off the roads, most of you would be thankful one less iffy driver is not out there putting you & your family at risk) so I don't know exactly how bad it is. Would love to hear more opinions from other drivers
I still go outside and bring in my supply of firewood I've put together over the last 8 months.
Woodstove heat is wonderful and love sitting and enjoying a nice HOME made hot toddy by the fire.

Winter tires are meant to be used when the temp stays below 7 C with or without snow.Oh nevermind, I just realized that most people don't have snow tires in vancouver area because it hardly ever snows anymore! dope
The composition is softer and grabs the roads on cold days much better than all season tires.
Winter tires are not just for snow and are worth the expense IMO.
