After watching UFC 93 this past weekend, I was left with the feeling that my money could have been better spent elsewhere. Now don't get me wrong, there were a few fights that were really quite good. I guess my biggest disappointment was with the two main events.

The first, "Shogun" Rua versus Mark Coleman was a snore-fest. Both of these guys looked completely out of gas half-way through the first round. I will admit that I really don't know too much about Rua, but I was a huge Coleman fan back in the day. The Fraser Arms used to be such a cool place to hang out and watch the fights(oh, and I believe they had strippers too!) His performance makes me wonder if a comeback into the sport of mixed martial arts at the age of 44 was a mistake. It also makes me wonder what would have happened if the original fight between Coleman and Lesnar had gone ahead as planned. Couture coming back, as cool as that is, really turned the heavy-weight division into a clusterfuck.

In Coleman's defence, he is a true heavy-weight and I believe this is the first time he has fought at 205. Dehydrating your body to cut weight has got to have serious effects on your cardio, especially when he hasn't been in the UFC for ten years. But Rua?? WTF?? He looked totally flat, not anywhere near the way he looked against Griffin.

Now for the main event, Franklin vs Henderson. Great fight, but am I the only one who thinks the judges were totally out to lunch with their decision?? I really thought Franklin was going to take that one. Oh well, at least I didn't put any money on it. Any predictions for the Penn/St. Pierre fight? Look forward to your comments!! Thanks.

I thought shogun looked like shit. Gassed in about 7 minutes.
He had no cardio in either of his UFC fights.
If he can't fix that, he stands no chance against the elite at 205.

Coleman was as expected, an extremely strong, slow dinosaur. He was gassed in about the 3rd minute.

Davis/Lytle fight was cool

I don't enjoy Jeremy Horn fights much, his defensive style is great against inexperienced fighters, but he doesn't seem to have the offence or athletic ability or strength to take it to the next level against top 5-10 fighters.

Henderson/Franklin was okay, the decision was fair.
Wish they could have fights like this go 5 rounds instead of 3.

Where's TS been hiding by the way? Haven't seen any words of wisdom from him in a while.
Good question, only been one post from him ALL year.

As for BJ, the trouble with prodigy's is once they grow up there's nothing all that special about them anymore.
If you're betting on the fight maybe you can make up your losses on the slots. ;)

Thoughts for UFC 94

My personal opinion on the card for UFC 94 is GSP beating BJ Penn. Both fighters have definitely changed since their first meeting. Since UFC 58, BJ has fought GSP (loss) , Matt Hughes (loss), Jens Pulver, Joe Stevenson, and Sean Sherk. During the same time GSP has fought Penn (win), Hughes twice (wins), Serra (1-1), Koscheck, and Fitch.

Personal opinion is GSP has fought tougher opponents or maybe I am mistaken. But that's my feeling. Secondly, GSP is a BIG welterweight. Like really he should be fighting in Middleweight cause he's a big 170lbs as Joe Rogan would say. Also, I think height and reach go with GSP. The key will be if BJ can adjust to the speed of GSP. Or vice versa.. also the ground game will be interesting. I don't think anyone at this current time can out wrestle GSP. He's defeated guys with better pedigrees like Trigg, Koscheck, Hughes etc. My one concern is whether or not GSP has a strong chin. We saw how Matt Serra KO'd him.. so BJ Penn definitely has a fighting chance. Personal opinion I go with GSP .. 2nd Rd TKO via strikes.

*note, there is a rumor that if GSP beats Penn he will fight Thiago Alves in the summer and if GSP beats him.. A super fight will happen in Dec. Between GSP vs Anderson Silva. Supposedly, at a catch weight.

The other main event I am really excited about Lyoto Machida vs Thiago Silva. I have Lyoto winning via decision. If so, I predict he will be in line for a title shot vs Rashad Evans. Both being undefeated fighters. The drawback is whether Dana White gives him the fight since he's more technical and rather boring. So who knows.

As much as I like GSP I can't see him beating Anderson Silva. He's probably the best fighter I've ever seen, and he should be fighting fighters in the 205 division. Course as the Iceman has shown, you could be great in one fight and then turn around and loose the next, if you get caught, so as they say in boxing I guess GPS has a punchers chance.

Definitely, I agree Anderson Silva is one of the best. There were rumors that he would like to only fight big money fights from here on out. He wants to retire in 2-3 years apparently. So assuming he stays healthy and dominates.. that's about 3 fights a year? maybe 9 more fights for him?

I guess you can really make an argument for either fighters. GSP has defeated Hughes, Penn once before etc. Anderson has defeated Rich Franklin twice, Dan Henderson.. etc.

So it's a tough call. I still would pay money to see it though.

Speaking of Chuck "Iceman" Liddel he's probably got one more crack at it. He fights Maurcio "Shogun" Rua in Montreal for UFC 97. Should be a good one.. If he loses I think its over. He wins.. then he gets another crack at the can.

It seems to be Anderson has fought bigger guys and is himself bigger. Dan Henderson and Rich Franklin are both significantly bigger than Penn and Hughes.

So on a p4p list I think they're pretty close, but if they were actually in the same ring together I think it would be a different story.

Anyway, it's a fight I'd definately watch, don't get me wrong, but personally I'd like to see how he'd do in the 205 division, as he certainly looked impressive in his win against James Irvin. Him and Liddell would be a good fight, as Liddell's getting old and it would a good test and a name fighter, meaning a good money fight for both.

Very true. Both in their respective weight classes are on top of their game. I guess its interesting to see how they would perform. Really, GSP should be fighting in middleweight.. maybe he should fight Rich Franklin first lol.

Speaking of which, I feel bad for the guy. He can't be a LHW (light heavy weight) since well some guys just have tons of punching power which he may lack. But he can't go to middleweight again since he can't beat Anderson Silva. So he's in the worst position possible.

BJ owned him on his feet ;) :p
Everyone keeps saying how Penn owned GSP during the standup but they forget it was a poke in the eye that started it off.

GSP will destroy Penn as long as the ref makes sure Penns thumb nail is trimmed before the start of the fight :p

Hey! I am going to UFC 94 too! Where are you sitting Hubba? I went to UFC 92 and every seat was awesome. The sweetest part is when all the fighters come and exit at the same exit you do. I ended up getting pictures with Rashad, Rampage, Randleman, Vinny and Efron from last seasons TUF, Matt Hamill and Tyson Griffin.

The UFC 93 fight wasn't as entertaining as the other UFC cards. You would think with all that talent that they have packed in the UFC that they could have a super card every month. But I guess not. It may have been the early morning start I was way too tired to enjoy the whole event.

I hate how Joe Rogan pumps up every fight like its the best freaking thing to ever happen in the world.

I bet on the Denis Kang fight, took Belcher, for some reason I thought that he would not do well in the cage, and he was -400. +250 was too good of odds and I also won the Henderson bet at -135.

For the UFC 94 fights I think I am going to take GSP at -170 and Silva at +250. As well what's with Jon Fitch fighting in the undercard. Is it punishment for him not wanting to sign that video game contract? Dana White is BAD ASS.

Im in M12... the atmosphere is insane everyone there is just revved up and its such a small stadium that it gets very very loud especially when it gets filled during the main card when it gets televised. The undercard is pretty empty but the fights were still good. It's funny though, there is like a 15 minute break between each fight and people were trying to get pictures with like Hermes Franca and Brock Lesnar when they were peeing. Brock was getting so choked, but Hermes was happily shaking peoples hands after he gave little Hermes a shake after his piss.
