Does anyone know the secret to having absorbent towels?

I tried the wash them in vinegar trick but it didn't seem to make as big a difference as claimed, and certainly didn't last long.

Is it just a case of buying very expensive, or are there good towels out there no matter the price?

Should add - I don't want to use those over-scented fabric spofteners.

Been buying moderately pricey towels for years but learned long ago that they run out of oompf over time, so they get recycled out to the garage etc.
Winners. Best place I have found for decent, OK priced nice towels.
And no I do not think there is a secret.

Skipping fabric softeners is actually good since they usually leave a waxy coating that makes fabric less absorbent. Dryer sheets apparently has a similar effect.

Depends on the material of the towel. Cotton is best, anything with poly** will over time not absord as well. The downsize is cotton doesn't last as long(and it shrinks over time) as the other towel types.

Stay away from microfibre for sure but good towels just getting better with washing , some take months of washing , I have a weakness for good linens 😋 and some do take a very long time. Adding baking soda to the wash can help .

I have found the opposite. Over time they seem to repel water more than absorb.

Another thing to consider is the acidity or "lack there of" of your water source. Most people use the recommended amount of detergent and end up using too much detergent. Detergent can age fabrics and cloth.
I'm in winnipeg and use half the recommended detergent. You notice on the colors. You also get spotless dishes when you reduce the detergent amount.

Best towels I have ever owned. Pricey, but worth it. Crazy absorbent even after being washed over a hundred times.

I saw this post a week ago and decided to buy two of these towels to try them out. I just used them and they are really big, super soft and among the best towels I have ever had. I’ll see how they stand up over numerous washes now, but so far they are really amazing. If they stay soft over the next few months I may upgrade my incall towels to only these. Thanks!

Crate and Barrel has similar towels to these, if anyone is willing to endure trying to get into Oakridge through the construction. A bit more expensive than on-line, but they are great towels.
