Hey, how many of you name-calling turds actually watch the video on Prime before commenting here. Sometime people should just shut up and listen and not flap off on political issues.

IN the video, the CDC (USA) had a test that was sent out to testing centers (called something else in video). The test consisted of 3 parts. #1, #2 worked but # 3 failed. It took about a month for the CDC to say if the first 2 test work then you test positive for covid. They had this test in January 2020.

Which meant that they did not test for over a month... Which caused the virus to spread through the poplation in the states. Someone lacked the balls to say if the first 2 tests worked, then the person tested positive. This took over a month!!!

This was the failure in the states and in Canada.

In Canada the initial testing was slow, disorganized on every level. Everybody and their dog was trying to get in on the testing for the new virus. As seen by the mutiple new stories of the time about testing.

IN Canada Lockdown in 2020 was in March. This is 1.5 months past the first cases of virus, considering that the first cases made there way here approx in Mid January 2020.

Now looking back there were an number of issues.

1. Which test worked better. There were numerous news reports of companies/individual claiming they had a proper test for covid. Confusing.
Not to metioned that even in the fall of 2020, they were problems with the number of testing sites etc.
2. Air borne or not air borne. Confusing.
3. Wear a mask or not wear mask. This came about because the shortage of N-95 masks.Due to lack of mask the CDC recommend not wearing mask (this I think was a political fuck-up as no medical doctor could condone this lack of safety).
4. Shortage of ventilators (machines to keep you breathing). This affected the patients in ICU. Aslo started a mad-dash to produce ventillators (but again how good is a ventillator made by a company that hasn't made them before?)
5. Phone Apps. Country wide app for smart phones to show where you been and if you were in the area of an infected person. This will be like the 911 on your smart phone, this will happen. If you don't want to be tracked, don't take your phone there.
6. General public kept in the dark. There should be an country wide plan for an epidemic. Againt he response was laughable as to what will happen in the future at the time. A plan like this should be made public. (what caused more panic, lack of info/fear of unknown; or an nice put forward plan that the populace could follow). Governments are very fearfull of the public knowing their plans- haven't got a clue why. Most people run off a calendar/plan for their daily lives.
7. January 2021- confusing reports about lack of vaccination etc.

When you look back, Canada as a whole really was unprepared to deal with an pandemic.
1. They failed at testing.
2. They failed at isolating people who had the Virus, due to testing. This could include people coming from other countries. The biggest mistake was bringing people back from other infected countries with no plan in mind.
3. The majority of deaths occured at "old folks homes". There should be a royal commision to look into condition in old folks homes and care of the people there and the conditions in which they live (building infrastructure/ventillation- which probally caused the spread of the virus in these homes)
4. They failed to have a plan for ventillators.
5. They failed to have a plan to produce PPE (N-95 masks) etc.
6. They failed to have a plan to manufacture the vaccine in Canada and not depend on foreign help.
7. The governments (prov and federal) failed in the safe-keeping of life saving equipment and procedures due to budget cuts. This is not just a TRUDEAU government thing, it was all the proceding governments that cut here and there....

The plan they did have was to isolated people. They ended up here, because they lacked the political will to enforce whatever pre-plans they had for panedemics....

I like to say see how well that turned out!!!! Also due to the lack of information people were scared for their lives, especially those health care workers at old folks homes....

Over all because people died------- the government get a big Fucken F-minus.....

for all you who think Canada is doing better than the US "per capita"

here's another simple stat

per confirmed cases, Canada is worse than the US in deaths

Canada 0.0257

US 0.0171

you want to compare Canada to someone

not, Australia/NZ, where they went commie

Taiwan, the only country to crush covid

they learned from SARS, put policies/plans in place for the next one

the only country

but we can't talk about them, copy them

cause we wouldn't want to upset the sock model's Masters in Beijing now would we

and don't give me that bullshit, they're an Island

the actions they took would not have produced zero covid, here, but they would have minimized the issue greatly

because they are all focused on stopping the spread, allowing the virus in to the country in the first place

something we've never done

You guys need to differentiate the response from the result. They're two fairly distinct things. The results are largely due to the existing culture within each country, whereas the response play a role, albeit small IMO, in the result.

Cases/deaths per capita is a result, not the response.

IMO Canada has has a poor response. Results-wise I'm not sure TBH.

I don't think deaths compared to confirmed cases is as important as deaths compared to the population as a whole. What becomes a confirmed case varies between provinces and states. BC specifically has one of the lowest testing rates in Canada, yet we've also had one of the lowest death rates.

As of today in the United States, COVID has killed 1 in every 700 Americans.
In Canada, COVID has killed about 1 in every 1800 Canadians.
If you control for population size, COVID has been 2.5x more fatal to Americans than Canadians.

I agree. To me the only thing that really matters: "will I (or any of my loved ones) die or suffer long-term consequences"?

I just hope Canada learns from its mistakes and puts some things into action before the next deadly virus/bacteria outbreak. The reality is that things will go on normally like the past, because of the status quo attitude in politicians and government workers. And really Canada is in so much debt because of this pandemic, it won't have money to correct to bad responses in the future.....
