Todd Bertuzzi showed up and pleaded Not Guilty, not surprised even though I hope the courts through the book at him for his childish actions against Steve Moore. Also not disrespect to the people showing up @ the court house BUT I just wonder if they have a life? I mean would they be there if Tyler Bouck attacked Steve Moore and not Todd Bertuzzi?

throw the book at him .. should have pleaded guilty save our tax dollars!!

I think this entire ordeal is stupid. . but in hockey you give consent for physical play, but this was stupid and criminal .. it most stop somewhere..

True, I am sure he will get a suspended sentence. ..

Meaning he is on the ropes and if he farts the wrong way he is in deep deep trouble..

It is fun until...

Bertuzzi is popular and a star player, but didn't he end another player's career?

No one knows if Steve Moore will ever play again, his career has been taken away from him because of Todd Bertuzzi's gutless actions. Bertuzzi should be suspended till Moore comes back if he can't play agin, blackball Bertuzzi fron the NHL, just like McSorley was.

Info on Moore is hard to come by. If there is no season this year his career staus becomes more clouded. Bertuzzi will receive a suspended sentence, I believe. I also think it is the right call. By charging him, I think the courts are trying to send a wake-up call to the NHL to do a better job of policing the players. There have been much worse assaults in the past that have resulted in minimal suspensions by the NHL. A player causing injury should be suspended for double the time the injured player is out. If an injury results in the end of a career - that player should be suspended for life. Won't happen - but should.

Did I read somewhere Colorado didn't offer Steve Moore a contract for next year?.

As much as we want to stick up for Bertuzzi we must admit his decision making wasn't too wise.

Regardless Bertuzzi is going to be liable for some damages.

Colorado did NOT qualify Steve Moore only because they don't know if he'll ever play again. The Avalanche are waiting to see if he will play again then re sign him. BTW I've heard on some American sports shows on Mojo Radio when this incident happened Vancouver people calling in and defending Bertuzzi, the American hosts just krusify Bertuzzi and the people who call in from Vancouver and defend Bertuzzi. I understand people defend Todd and that's fine BUT you can't defend what he did, and he has to pay a certain price, I'm NOT a Canucks fan (Washington Capitals fan) but I do have season tickets and this type of violence in hockey has to stop or else someone will die because of this.

well if anyone watched the last game of the season at gm place when the players give away their jerseys at the end of the game, todd got huge cheers when he came out onto the ice, so im thinking most of vancouver is behind him.

I personally think Todd Bertuzzi should ask for a trade so he can have a fresh start. If he stays here his kids will be hassled at school about this, his wife will be bothered about this where ever she goes. Trade hime to Nashville, Florida, Phoenix or Carolina so he can keep a low profile. BTW the Canucks are rumored to be intrested in Paul Kariya, I think he is damaged goods as he has that wrist problem that kept him out of alot of games last season, so I think they should spend their money somewhere else. Also the Sedin Sisters want a raise or they will sit out this season. They want a raise for doing nothing the past 4 seasons.

We don't need kariya, he's a soft diving piece of garbage. Perfect fit for the avs.

We need GRIT, not pansy-assed floaters like kariya or selanne. And Bertuzzi is the grittiest power forward in the game.

Losing bertuzzi wouldn't necessarily mean that we would be able to go out and get someone else. Knowing how reluctant and apprehensive canucks owner Mccaw is to opening his checkbook for allowing gm's to spend money, the nucks won't get a replacement if bert leaves.

Bert has had enough, and has been suffereing way too much already. They should of let the league deal with the issue themselves to begin with, no legal bullshit. Even JOE SAKIC himself said that it should of been that way.

So i stand by him. I hope Todd wins his case, and gives a giant sized "UP YOURS" to the entire colorado avalanche organization.

makemyday is right: if the instigator rule was trashed, then the hit on Naslund would have been dealt with, and Big Bert would not likely be in this situation. Having said that, Bertuzzi is known for making bonehead decisions. He may have been the premier power forward in the league, but he lacks the smarts to play the way he needs to in order to be successful in that role.

He had to plead not guilty. Pleading guilty would open him up to a huge civil suit + hamper his ability to cross the border. And who would want a player who can't travel across the border ?

The instigator rule shows how non-hockey people mess up The Game. Train some referees, call the game fairly, & let the boys play.
