2) We simply never got long-odds lucky with the picks we had (Vince Carter was a fluke pick for the Raptors).

If any city gets an NBA team it will be Oklahoma City with the sucess of the
New Orleans Hornets their in line first, so are Kansas City and Las Vegas before Vancouver. I'd love to see the Memphis Grizzlies move back to Vancouver BUT not Portland, so much history in that city, with Bill Walton, Clyde Drexler, Jerome Kersey, and a die hard fan base.

Las Vegas would probably get the team before Kansas....As long as they can figure out what they are gonna do with the gambling issues in Vegas.

Didn't Toronto swap picks with Golden State? I think it was Vince Carter for Antawn Jamison and something else ...
Anyways, I would love to see Vancouver get a basketball team going again. I was out of the country all of the time the Grizzlies were in Vancouver but I always followed their progress closely (I have a thing for losing teams ... I am also a huge Clippers fan ).
I also thought Vancouver didn't have a bad lineup (Bibby and Abdul-Rahim comes to mind) they just needed a decent coach and some trades for them to turn the corner ... too bad the Grizzlies turned the corner over at Memphis .

Technically no....

Golden State actually owned Vince Carter first(you can see the draft day pic with the Warriors cap on) but they knew they were going to trade him the minute they have drafted him. Reason for that was they wern't sure if Jamison was gonna be there at the number 4 pick when the Raptors was up.

If you recall the that draft was held in Vancouver in June 1998, the
Los Angeles Clippers selected Michael Olowakandi 1st Overall who ended up being one of the biggest busts of alltime! the Vancouver Grizzlies wanted this guy so bad but ended up selecting Mike Bibby 2nd overall, Stu Jackson was raving about Olwakandi hoping he'd land 2nd overall to the Grizz. They also could of selected Vince or Dirk in 98. and with the Portland Trailblazers they will be a good team again even though they are dead last in the Western Conference, Sebastian Telfair their young point guard will be a superstar for them, and with Zach Randolph and Juan Dixon still young they will be good again soon, hopefully the team can remain in Portland even though I'd like to see the NBA come back to Vancouver
