Since its summer not much dramas on the TV. Looking for a mental escape series to watch. I normally go for the thriller, action, unusual dramas. Is this one going to do it ?
Thinking of buying the complete series on DVD.

Sopranos was excellent.

I have been getting into watching Sons of Anarchy as of late, also an excellent show.

Oz (which dates back about 15 years now) is also great to watch. Oz launched the careers for many of the actors from the series.

I got the box set off eBay and still have it on the player usually when I want to watch like four in a row.

You actually gave me a good idea to start the final two seasons again, thanks :D

Still lost in the '60s
In a similar vein and just as excellent a production (or maybe even more so) is Boardwalk Empire.
Worth joining Netflix to watch.
As a matter of fact, one of the Sopranos actors is in B.E.

Since when is Boardwalk Empire on Netflix?

Edit: I just did a search and Boardwalk Empire is not available on the Canadian version of Netflix. But I believe honda is in the US, so perhaps it is available to him on the US version.

enjoyed Sopranos very much,
and RIP James Gandolfini.

after Sopranos, I'd say Breaking Bad is just as addictive.
can't wait for new season of Better Call Saul.

Well it did try one of those family dramas once. It was 6 feet under, I finished it but took work as forcing myself. I will try the Sopranos nothing else to do, at least it will keep me from going to the strip club due to boredom sometimes.

It was an awesome show.. It had funny characters even though it had lots of curse words and a little violence but not over the top. Wish James Gandolfini didn't pass away so suddenly, they may have made a movie.

It wasn't the gratuitous violence that drew me to the show but more of the family issues (mother and sister), his penchant for girl friends on the side and the humour.

Things that stick out in my mind were -

The guy who died while taking a dump. That was crazy. Where else would that have been on TV?
Or Silvio doing his Al Pachino "Godfather Impression" they keep drawing me back in!

Lilyhammer is hilarious! watched all three season's. I watched the last couple of seasons of Sopranos loved it and always meant to go back and finish it since now HBO Can. has their entire library available on VOD:thumb:
Also worth noting on HBO is the Leftovers, I am eagerly awaiting upcoming Se.2. True Detective, loved both seasons, The Wire was probably my all time favourite from that network.

agree with your points there bbb.
the violence was expected but it was the character development in the show
that got me hooked. Christopher, Paulie and Silvio were great support characters.

stand out scene for me was Phil getting wacked at the gas station.
gruesome followed by humour. very creative.

right here and now
So worth it to get the Sopranos boxed set and go on a binge-watching tear.
Alternatively, House of Cards is probably the best out there right now- Kevin Spacey is terrific- a real fucking dirt.
As noted, The Wire and Boardwalk Empire are great choices as well.
Orange is the New Black was OK- great start but petered out a bit towards the end.
Currently powering through Hell on Wheels- only a few episodes to go. Easy for the ladies to watch as well- I mentioned to my SO that my best buddy in high school was a ringer for Anson Mount- her response?- "He must have been VERY popular"- which my buddy was. And the Native design chin tattoo on Eva can easily be read as "MILF"- adds to her charm IMO.

... very entertaining.

It reminded me of my East Van days, 35 years ago.
You wouldn't be thinking of the same East Van crew as me?

Those were some crazy times to be a citizen on the fringes watching what was happening with the Italians v everyone else.
