Perhaps this thread will make all you Canknucklheads take pause and get lost in a nostalgic haze of happier times. Who do you think are their greatest rival? Before you answer, think back throughout the life of the franchise and which team has proven over that time to be their greatest foe. Choose from the five I've selected or provide your own answer.

My pick is Calgary. Memorable 7 game series in 1989, 1994 and 2003 and many great regular season tilts as well.

How will memories of losing to all those teams make us 'take pause and get lost in a nostalgic haze of happier times'?
All those teams have mostly beaten us when it mattered: the playoffs.

calgary is a zit on our backside compared to the hatred I have for chicago, boston.
I've long forgotten about all those losses to calg, oil and playoff losses to LA, minn.
I remember the ot goal by bossy that killed us in the final.
And the cheapshots messier took for the rangers in the final.
Minny is the only team on your list who hasn't won a cup but they're only about 7 yrs old.
How long have the nux been in the nhl without a cup?

Thanks for dredging that all up for me.

I'm glad to see my Flames are in the running for pissing you all off. Though for us of course it's the Oilers that we hate with the intensity of a dying star. Like much of the league we don't give too much thought to the Canucks.

(Good, I can feel your anger. I am defenseless. Take your keyboard. Strike me down with all of your hatred and your journey towards the dark side will be complete!)

How the fuck is Boston a rival? They don't play in the Canucks' conference and apart from the 2011 final, not much has happened between the two. Look up the definition of rival.

I vote for management. Statistically speaking, they should have won a Stanley Cup at least once in their existence. And for most of their existence, it's management making dumb decision after dumb decision preventing the Canucks to be even a contender.
That comment, in a nutshell, is the problem with the fan base. The Canucks' are NOT entitled to a championship. They need to go out and win one. Management both past and present need to take responsibilities for both the successes and failures of this franchise but the fans just have to be patient or they can move on and cheer for another team. The Rangers, Red Wings and Blackhawks all went through lengthy droughts before they won and that victory was result of hard word, adaptation and a little bit of luck.

How could this discussion happen without including the Flames? In fact, I could argue that the Canucks are equal, if not greater rivals than the Oilers, although recently the Canuck/Flames rivalry has cooled off due to the recent decline of the Flames franchise.

Chicago Blackhawks are my pick as biggest all-time rival because of the time they were in the old Smythe division and the recent playoff series,
A very astute answer. For me the Blackhawks are a close second, as many significant playoff series wins and loses have been against the Blackhawks. Let's not forget the 1982 Conference Finals and the towel game as well.

A rival doesnt have to play in the same conference.
Look up the definition of ridiculous.

Yes, but rivalries have to be sustained through continuous contention. Playing each other two times a year will not sustain a rivalry for any length of time.

I disagree.
Rivalries diminish and return, but the two boston games the next few years will be highlights because of the intense rivalry we have with Colin Campbell's team.
Until the tiny ball of hate, east van boy, char and colin's son are gone the hate is still on.
