We all live under the security that you have provided, or continue to provide, and I'm very thankful. I know that all of us that post have different, or at least varying politics, particlarly since I'm in the US and most are not. I hope most will tolerate all opinions, but I'm NOT interested in hearing them here. Please use this thread as a vehicle to say thanks to all those who have, or are currently serving. The hardships you endure in the continued fight for the freedoms we enjoy are beyond most of our comprehension. As I go about doing my job I will reflect on you all and hope for a safe and Merry Christmas. Most importantly, a rapid return home.

totally agree Hit Man..

I share that exact sentiment..and asside from all the political views that should not reflect the respect and admiration to all the men and women who serve ...Always Remember..Lest We Forget.. hopefully if someone wants to make a political debate about this they can take it to another thread..thanks again Hit Man and hope All have a Very Merry Christmas where ever you may be and where ever you serve..

chuck, I read your previous thread and it was entirely on point. walrus, I'm acutely aware of the lives lost by all nations that are involved. My hope is that we can come together in a spirit of thanks. Nothing more...

My brother's daughter is serving with the PPCLI Battle Group stationed in Kabul. She spends her days in a foxhole at a checkpoint at-the-ready waiting for something to happen. Living there is very hard and quite cold right now. They are sheltered in tents with basic latrine facilities and the food is standard fare. The only joy she has is the repeated visits by local children and curious onlookers.

I hope she is well...
As I was reading your post Adventurer, a CBC news piece came on about the troops in Kabul..The work load for them does not change as they are always expected to perform at 100% no matter the season or situation..Morale for these Men & Women, all troops pulling this kind of duty is very important..I saw on the news piece they were getting a little treat of a Christmas Dinner and were still managing to smile despite being so far away from home and enduring all they have to endure..another thing they showed was all the mail that they receive which is quite a boost in morale for them..I can attest to this first hand..one of my duties on similar tours was mail delivery and this stuff is like gold to them...they appreciate it Very Much, no matter who it's from, as it is a connection to home and I used to enjoy putting smiles on thier faces especially on tours that went over the Christmas Season..So anyone can call up a base if you have one near you and get an address to a tour of duty..ie Kabul, Golan Heights etc..and Iam quite sure that our serving Men and Women from the States would appreciate the same at any time of the year..Just a thought, so I wish your niece well Adventurer and again along with all the troops serving away from home !!

Thank-You and
Merry Christmas ;)
