There are a few I've met who seem to have their heads screwed on correctly & their feet grounded.
They are now wealthy & retired.
Word to the wise do not ever tell an SP you think she's nut's or has a mental disorder.
Hell will freeze over before she finishes taking her pound of flesh out of you.

I think the large majority of SP's suffer from depression which causes them to get involved with drugs. Drug addiction requires quick easy money and besides selling her body...how else is a woman to make $100+ per hr? Try nothing!
So why are these women depressed in the first place?
Could be tons of things, but some of the most obvious are:
Abusive family
Financial Hard Times
Single Mother
Self-esteem issues

I don't think anybody can answer your question. As you know and most people with a little education know that it is not easy to deternime whether someone has a personality disorder or not. I took psychology for six semesters when I was in university and I still have a hard time to understand most of the personality disorders. Never mind to determine someone's illness just by spending a little time with her.
Most prostitutes, hookers, service providers, call girls or whather you want to call them do have a different kind of life style, but it doesn't mean most of them have personality disorders. Most people in the entertaiment business , whether it is in the movie business, opera, play or even from circus business are different kind of people; unlike the rest of the society.
Be very careful to say who has personality disorders or not. Most psychopaths are doctors, lawyers, stockbrokers, politicians, car salesmen and
ordinary people like you and I. So, be very careful !!
I think you are mistaken about people who have personality disorders with people who have a hard life. On a different note, anybody, anybody can experience a temporary insanity when they are facing a very stressful situation. As I said it many, many times prostitution can destroy your life. Anybody in it.

There are many types of girls in this business. Some are great, normal girls and others are not. It is not fair to say that we are all psychologically challenged.
I am a sp, and (as far as I know) I do not have any abnormalities. I work in this business so that I can pay for my schooling instead of taking out a student loan.

Even if someone else's opinion is unnecessary, this is still an opinion-based board and they have the right to share their point of view.
