One person was killed by gunfire at the Jewish Federation Building in downtown Seattle yesterday. The Seattle Post-Intelligencer said today five were wounded in the shooting.
At least four people were rushed to a local hospital after being struck, said Frederick Gutt, a Federal Bureau of Investigation agent stationed in Seattle. One person, identified as Naveed Afzal Haq, was booked in Washington's King County Jail last night, on one count of homicide and five of attempted homicide, the Post-Intelligencer reported.
No listing for Haq was available in Pasco, Washington.
One 43-year-old woman was shot in the abdomen while another woman, who is 17 weeks pregnant, was shot in the arm, the Seattle Times reported, citing the Seattle Fire Department. Others suffered minor injuries, the Times said.
The suspect told building staff members before he began shooting that he was ``a Muslim American'' who was ``angry at Israel,'' the Times said, citing Amy Wasser-Simpson, the federation's vice president for planning and community services.
