Dude,

Good luck getting the license. The hippie pinkos who say you can't buy beer on Sundays and that you can only buy piss warm beer also say that you need a food establishment somehow connected to your store. The only way around it is if you find a restaurant or pub who doesn't have a liq store and pay them a royalty fee for letting you use their license.

ur livin the dream..I tried a decade ago and had every door shut on me until I gave up. Hopefully things have changed. Start with your permit cause that's the only way you'll get going. It's easy to get started. Just call the big fat lazy taxing BC Liquor control board. You might have to wake them up to get any service ;)

Looks like you're SOL..

Licensee Retail Stores

These outlets are often referred to as private liquor stores or cold beer and wine stores. The owner (licensee) of the licensee retail store must have an associated liquor-primary (bar or pub etc.) licence.

Licensee retail stores may sell beer, wine, coolers, cider, and a full range of spirits.

They may sell liquor any time between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., and may also sell packaged snacks, non-alcoholic beverages, B.C. Lottery products, and liquor-related items, such as glasses, bottle openers and corkscrews. Minors are allowed in licensee retail stores, if accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Existing licensees can apply to move their store to a different location. (See Making Changes to My Licence).

We are not accepting applications for new licensee retail stores at this time

A wealth of info here http://www.smallbusinessbc.ca/

Or drop by your neighbourhood beer & wine store and chat with the owner.

PS this area is for paid advertisers only

I Too have looked into this

I too, have looked into this but the ever resourceful Very Veronica, hit the nail right on the head.:( The only way is to buy an existing pub with a liquor store. Even the Liqour Barn chain has a pub in BC. (FYI, they are a very profitable Income Trust)
Great work Veronica!!!;)

PS Sorry for replying in an advertisers forum, I didn't read your full post the first time VV.

Unfortunately, the proprietor has to be the same for both-you would have to be the license holder for both the liquor primary and the lrs establishments

You are asking random strangers?

Seriously, go hire a retail consultant. It's not like asking where a good place to eat or what movies are worth watching. It's your money on the line.

And sadly, if you are going to trust strangers with no verifiable relevant experience for advice on your business fundamentals such as opening inventory and sales per square foot (which you simplified into space), I fear you won't last long.

I'm not trying to be hard on you to be malicious, but seriously....you have to know what you are doing. You'd best go get a job as a manager of a beer and wine store and learn how the business works first.

Good point...first rule of starting a business is don't go into a business that you don't know anything about.
