I'm opposed to the death penalty but I have to agree you should be sentenced for your crime not for what you've done once you have a death penalty hanging over your head.
the thing is, is that the evidence he was convicted on is very circumstancial. yes he was a gang banger. actually more like "the" gang banger he was the founder of the crips. i know that he has done his fair share of dirt, of that i have no doubt. however even to this day when people said just say sorry for what you've done and you will have a greater chance for clemancy, he never did. he still swears to this day that he did not commit those crimes.
think about it. this is a black gang banger known to police and actually a thorn in the side of police because of the power he weilded. how hard would it be to set this guy up in 1981????? with an almost exclusively white jury i might add. who do you think the jury at that time would believe? a black gang banger or the cops?

He didn't so much deny clemency than refuse to overturn a judges ruling and allow it. Huge difference. He took the easy way out and let someone elses decision govern. This way he will be able to sleep at night. That is, assuming he has a conscience.Slowrider said:

I too don't believe in the death penalty. Life, and I mean until you're dead, ,without any chance of parole is my solution. I recently saw a program that questions forensic evidence used to convict accused people. Apparently " experts " where being used to testify in cases to get convictions when the " experts " were incompetent ! Cases were overturned and charges were laid against these idiots. So in cases where the evidence is seemingly airtight there is always the chance of error.

Face a jury of his peers, which included an African American, the link below, goes to a Black Magazine and the article is entitled why Mr. Williams sentence should be carried out. I choose to live in a Nation who has taken the ultimate price off the table. This is the same nation that sends our peace minded troops into conflict where death of our troops is 357 members, of a peace keeper service, since we start in Cyprus in the 1960’s and no one here acknowledges there commitment just a picture of a Mercedes jeep and some small banter among us. So forgive me if I do not shed a tear for the co-founder of one of LA’s most vicious gang whom according to LAPD has been linked to over 1000 deaths is the Streets of LA since its inception in 1970, almost 3 X’s what are arm forces have lost in their peace keeping missions. Gentlemen, lets keep things in proper perspective.
