Sanitizing Christmas...

I still can not believe this. I was in a restaurant tonight, they had the piped in music going on. It was Christmas carols. So there I am, half listening to Walking in a Winter Wonderland when I hear it. Brace yourself ..."In the meadow we can build a snowman, and pretend that he's a circus clown, and than we can watch him roll around" WTF is that about? The Parson Brown is too Christian? Not enough generic "Holiday Greetings" for them? I just don't know anymore. yeesh.

Actually the lyrics of Winter Wonderland go like this:

Winter Wonderland - Richard B Smith

Sleigh bells ring, are you listening,
In the lane, snow is glistening
A beautiful sight,
We're happy tonight.
Walking in a winter wonderland.

Gone away is the bluebird,
Here to stay is a new bird
He sings a love song,
As we go along,
Walking in a winter wonderland.

In the meadow we can build a snowman,
Then pretend that he is Parson Brown

He'll say: Are you married?
We'll say: No man,
But you can do the job
When you're in town.

Later on, we'll conspire,
As we dream by the fire
To face unafraid,
The plans that we've made,
Walking in a winter wonderland.

In the meadow we can build a snowman,
And pretend that he's a circus clown
We'll have lots of fun with mister snowman,
Until the alligators knock him down.

When it snows, ain't it thrilling,
Though your nose gets a chilling
We'll frolic and play, the Eskimo way,
Walking in a winter wonderland.

If you listen to the Bing Crosby version he changed the words to:

"We'll have lots of fun with mister snowman,
Until the kiddies knock him down"

I'm guessing that everyone sings it slightly differently, but I'd be surprised if they eliminated the Parson Brown reference completely. Maybe you just heard the later part of the song?

p.s. Merry Christmas to EVERYONE!!!! :)
The local A-Channel morning show has this pine tree covered in decorations and gifts under it...and they call it a "Giving Tree".

Ack! Wolverine, I would like to think you are making this stuff up, but no, sadly enough, I believe it 100%.

Merry Christmas to you, and I hope you find all kinds of cool things under your Christmas tree!

If my memory serves me;
Parson Brown is basically the local preacher who marries a young couple in love.
As far as I know he was not an actual person, just a generic persona for the lyrics.

PC is out of control.

I have friends of various religious backgrounds and ethnicity. They don't change or hide the names of their holidays and think it is crazy that we are trying to do so. Everyone knows it's Christmas!

I'm a traditional guy.
It's gotta be Parson Brown!
Pumpkin pie and all that.
Parson Brown all the way.
Don't mess with the Parson.
No No.
Parson Brown is the name.
