This has probably been posted before, but I was wondering the risks of LFK/DFK?

I read that the safest way to practise sex would be to always use a condom and avoid kissing, but if neither partner has any cold sores or cuts, wouldn't kissing be relatively safe?

Hi portace

Have a look at our STI risk chart. It gives the risk when compared to different types of sexual activity.
http://healthnurse.wordpress.com/faq-about-sexual-health/sti-risks-chart/

From the information on the chart we do not see many sexually transmitted infections passing with DFK. It is one of the safer sex activities.

Like you have already mentioned cold sores (herpes simplex virus type 1) would be the most common. If someone had a syphilis sore this could also be transmitted but syphilis is not that common when compared to cold sores.

In the STI chart we also list the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) as a low risk from kissing. Even though we know that HPV may be transmitted this way it is still unknown what type of risk this may cause people in the long run.
