References are kind of a pain :/

Wanted to see a SPs from one of the downtown micros. Jumped through the usual vetting questions and was asked to provide a reference. Kind of annoying but figured that's their boundaries, fair enough.

Asked one of my regular SPs (well known) and she asked me not to use her as a reference cause she does not like the micro. Similar story with another SP I know.

Then asked one of the usual micros I frequent and were ok I used them as a reference (very popular). Got back with the reference and the micro I wanted to goto said we won't use them as a reference.

The micro came back with a small list of micros which I wasn't even interested in.

Have gotten to the 'too hard' basket and I'm just walking away.

Has anyone else had a similar experiences?

I guess they only take "references" from "affiliated" shops, not competitors.

They’re greedy. I would go somewhere else where you don’t have to jump hoops to spend money.
