last week the Province had an article on rats in Vancouver.

among the letters to the editor was one from someone who said he(maybe she) was watching the Great Gatsby in Tinseltown Cinema,
full house, so sitting in the very back row in the corner(where I always try to sit) when he saw a rat on the wall!

freaks me that this is the exact location I choose when I watch a movie there, which I've done countless times since the theatre
opened in 1999,or 2000.

has anyone seen any 4-legged movie patrons there, or any other theatre in Van?

As formerly a frequenter of SWs in that neighborhood for years I can attest to it being full of large rats in the alleys, so it's not particularly surprising. I also saw them in the Granville 7 theatres, or whatever they were called, before it was shut down not that long ago.

We're a port city. Rats are everywhere, you just don't usually see them. On Tuesday morning, I saw one near my front door but it got spooked and ran into traffic.....Vancouver drivers don't stop for humans, so you can imagine the result for the rat.

Jeez Vanessa...I thought I got up early this morning.:D

This city is full of rats, mice, cockroaches, bed bugs, silverfish, fleas....downtown major hotels such as the Pan Pacific and 4 Seasons have had bed bug problems.most likely still do. Mice and rats are easy to get rid of, not too expensive, but bed bugs are so hard to rid of, now they're becoming immune to most pesticides....same as cockroaches at most downtown and eastside eateries, never mind the state of the kitchens in chinese and other 'ethnic' kitchens. Most have never been cleaned properly, are always in an on-going 'getting cleaned up' process with the health boards.

I used to be in pest control, and saw things that made me be much more aware of where I eat out.

I worked at the White Spot restaurant in Kelowna many years ago and it was the only restaurant I know of where everything got taken apart and sanitized every night, and the manager actually wore a white glove when she did inspection.
Most major chain restaurants have very strict cleaning policies and protocols that have to be followed, White Spot, IHOP etc are quite good at keeping things in order, as well as other independent eateries around town, and out in the valley...surprised and not in a good way with the supposedly 'high end' restaurants as well how some don't have any sanitation protocols to follow...or seem to have to do a panic marathon cleaning every six months after the health inspector had come around and told them they have a week to clean up or they'd be closed for 4 weeks. Had many freaked out managers and chefs call me for recommendations on how to get rid of the flies and roaches, never mind the rodents. For example....well, for specifics, pm me.

That is why it is called White Spot. They were trying to use the word White to convey that they were cleanest spot in town!

I love how they have those pictures and stories that display their history when you go into their restaurants.

And I always heard that the bathrooms cleanliness is usually equivalent to the kitchens cleanliness in restaurants.

a few yrs ago there was a video of a restaurant in New York,a chain, but I can't recall the name.

someone took the video thru the window cuz it was after hours, so no humans on site....but plenty of
rats romping around eating what they could find.

I dunno if the restaurant recovered their patrons or not, this was several yrs ago.

White Spot has a big reason it needs that level of cleanliness.....They had that huge lawsuit after deaths or sickness from bad tartar sauce of something in the 1980's iirc I forget all the details, but it was big news at the time.
