My interest in comparing a Single-transferable-vote poll (STV) versus a First-past-the-post (FPTP) poll was peaked while responding to maverick73 in one of his many opinion polls. Also, we’re apparently going to have another referendum on possibly adopting the system, so I thought this can be a bit topical. At first, I was going to use political parties, but thought that that might be too personal and heaty, so I’ve decided to do an Asian beauty pageant instead. Hopefully, this won't offend people either.
Basically, you just vote for girl that you find the most attractive/sexy. You can vote using the above ballot as normal, but in order for this to work you also need to vote STV style by actually posting a reply to this thread. Otherwise, the comparison will not be as meaningful. I’ll list the candidates first, and then explain the format for the posting (Hopefully, you can see the pictures. Let me know if you cannot).
A. Lucy Liu
B. Incredible girl (I don't know her name)
C. Hyori Lee
D. Kelly hu
E. Sung Hi Lee
To vote STV style, just list the girls in preference from the girl that you find the most attractive down to the least attractive. You may list one girl, some of the girls, or all of the girls. The choice is totally up to you. I will cast my vote to show you the easiest format for me to tally.
1. Incredible Girl
2. Hyori Lee
3. Sung Hi Lee
If it makes it easier for you, you can simply put the letter that corresponds to the appropriate candidate thusly:
1. B
2. C
3. E
Notice that I voted for only three girls as they are the only candidates that I wish my vote to be put towards. Again, if you would like to list more/less candidates, all of the candidates, or just one, then that is fine.
I am thinking that I’ll let the poll run for either one week or four days, depending on the voter response. At any rate, I will post a reply when I decide to place the cut-off point. Once I’ve tallied the votes, I’ll let you know. Currently, I am considering that there will be only one winner for simplicity’s sake.
I also reserve the right to throw my hands up in frustration and declare “Je renonce!” if I find it too difficult to make the calculations. Additionally, it may be the case that I will not need to do any calculations if the votes are overwhelmingly in favour for one candidate or there are not enough posted votes. I have no idea what to expect as this is my first poll; so, this can turn out to be a very smooth process or an unmitigated disaster. In any event, I will let you know.
Cheers
