I may be out of line posting this here as it isn`t a question for the health nurse. I will delete it if need be. Any comments or questions should be put in the Forum where there is a thread with the same title.

Pacific Blue Cross Wants Your Business

Pacific Blue Cross wants to sell extended health, dental and prescription drug insurance to individuals in the adult entertainment industry. That means sex workers, dancers, massage providers and anyone else. This is nothing special. They want to sell medical insurance to everyone in BC. The cost ranges from $11/month for one person’s extended health plan with no drug or dental cover to $190/month for a family of three with enhanced drug and dental, up to age 34. A single mom with basic extended health, dental and drug coverage would pay $70 per month. You get to pick the sort of policy you want and that determines the cost. After age 34 the costs increase gradually with age.

Pacific Blue Cross wants to sell coverage to everyone and they have no interest in what your occupation is. You can learn about what they offer at
http://www.pac.bluecross.ca/Corp/ind...luechoice.aspx or http://www.pac.bluecross.ca/Corp/ind...imaryblue.aspx
The application forms are on the web site and occupation is not mentioned.

If you have questions you can phone Pacific Blue Cross at 604-419-2194 or 1-800-873-2583. If you want to talk to someone who has explicitly stated he would be pleased to help people in the sex trade you can ask to speak to Kenny Ghuman. He has said that everyone else at Pacific Blue Cross would be equally pleased to answer your questions and sell you medical insurance.

Please post any questions or comments in the Forum thread with the same title, Pacific Blue Cross Wants Your Business. Send me a private message if you don’t want to post.

Im not associated with Blue Cross and have no financial interest in people signing up for extended health coverage. On the other hand we all have an interest in everyone being as healthy as possible and extended health coverage could help.

Hi treveller

When taking out any type of health insurance it is always a decision made by weighing up the cost of the insurance compared to the benefit (or need to be insured).

The one question I have for you treveller is do people from the adult entertainment industry get a special discount or is it the same rate anyone would get?

Everyone pays the same. You are pooled with everyone else in BC who buys the same combination of benefits and the cost for your package is the average cost per person in the pool.

The application form has no employment info. They don`t know and they don`t care. The fellow I was talking to said that if they took occupation into account sex work would be some way down the list of problematic occupations.

This is all for individual policies. The group policies have more diverse benefit options but the same costing approach applies. The problem with the group policies is that you need an employee employer situation such as at VIP in Victoria where they have a group policy for the women who work there.
