For all those who like to be on candid camera, watch yourselves.

Big Brother is watching you.

Wednesday, August 25, 2004

Winnipeg Police are turning to technology to help crack down on street prostitution.

Officers are video-tapping prostitutes and their customers and playing the recordings on a website.

The project is dubbed "Operation Snapshot" and police say they hope the not-so-candid-camera will scare johns away from areas known for prostitution.

License plates and faces have been blurred out in the videos.

I watched the videos and all I saw was a female getting into a vehilce and the vehilce driving off. I didn't hear any conversation about money being exchanged for sexual favors nor did I see any money change hands. I guess I better tell my girlfriend who lives on Sargent I can't pick her up anymore as it might show up on the internet and people might get the wrong idea about our relationship.

I must be computer illiterate, I couldn't find the link where they show customers going in and out of known crack houses.

Don't the police have better things to do? This initiative is inviting invasion of privacy lawsuits, for one thing. For another, it's advertising the sex trade: I had no idea activity took place on those streets until I went to the website.

I see these poor girls on Ellice all the time. Who would pick them up? Most of them look cold, scared, and undernourished. Everytime I see them on the street I want to pick them up, take them to a restaurant for a warm bowl of soup and buy them a warm jacket to wear.

Sure there is a big brother aspect to this, however the people that live in the area are entitled to a good neighbourhood. They don't need others trolling up and down the streets assuming any female is a hooker.

Also this serves as another reason why prostitution should be legalized and regulated. The idea should be to get hookers off the streets and not pushing them from one neighbourhood to another. They should be working where it's much safer and cleaner.

Thanks for the link.

I recongnize my buddy's vehicle in one of them.
Best I give him a call and alert him that he's in the wrong part of town and not spending his money wisely.

I think those video's are fairly recent. I checked out that site (just making sure there wasn't one of me playing) at the beginning of December and remember they had different video's playing.

Wpg Police Service officers need to stop wasting taxpayers money and all those Robin's Donuts (Sargent & Banning).

Wanna stop trollers from browsing for street walkers. Set up A-L-E-R-T (just like at Christmas. I go out of my way to avoid this - even when I'm not drinking). Who's got time to deal with "flatfoot"?

At least LE might start catching stolen vehicles or expired insurance tags by pulling over vehicles and checking drivers.

I'm so tierd of planning the LE workday and proceedures in Winnipeg. I'm going to ask for a contsultancy one day soon!
