the same thing that happened here, and continues through fear mongering and mis representation of the lives of sex workers by abolitionist researchers....

Scare-mongering over an outbreak of sex trafficking during the Olympics resulted in half a million pounds being wasted, a London Assembly Member has claimed.

Conservative Member Andrew Boff said that just four cases of trafficking were discovered last year – despite an extra £500,000 being diverted to police after warnings that the Games would spark a boom in the sex trade.

“Before the 2012 Games there was a great deal of hype around the idea that the Olympics would open the flood gates to sex trafficked women”, he said.

“And now I have data that confirms that these fears were misplaced and there was no increase in prostitution or human trafficking.”

“Yet a huge amount of time, money and resources was poured into this search, which turned out to be nothing more than tilting at windmills.”

Mr Boff was speaking following the publication of his report on human trafficking and the sex workers, “Silence on Violence”. He concluded that resources were too often focused in the wrong areas due to the amount of trafficking which takes place outside the sex industry.

Probably illegal immigration and illegal workers, which in most industrialized countries totally dwarfs anything the sex industry might have going.

absolutly; construction for example. trafficking was huge for the olympics here.

men coming from foreign countires with promises of big wages and becoming canadian citizens only to discover they HAD to use the company lawyer to gain their landed immigrant status...some men paid $20,000.00. illegal to charge people money to immigrate here.

that wasn't the worst of the construction worker trafficking either, men were denied their pay or paid really low wages and had no recourse because they were here illegally. also, others were paid in drugs, beaten, threatened and treated like slaves by a man who was subsequently gunned down thankfully....bye bye loser....

also, domestic work/ house keepers. a woman was charged with human trafficking in north vancouver for unlawful confinement and illegal seizure of travel documents of her maid. the woman was not allowed out and was on call 24/7 with no pay. i guess the rich woman who held her prisoner felt she should be greatful to be in canada at all and so owed her her servitude....fuckin' weirdo's....

migrant workers face alot of adversity and vulnerability when working illegally and so often are taken advantage of....

it does happen in the sex industry also, but not to the degree they would have us believe. they make so much money in funding however selling the idea of little girl sex slaves, that it continues on and on....poverty pimps we call them. taking advantage of the myths about our lives and playing into societal fears around our industry.
