There are the well noted cities that are having a tough time supporting an NHL franchise such as the Phoenix Coyotes. Couldn't these cities be a better alternative such as Quebec City, Seattle or Winnipeg? They can't be any worse than Phoenix. I know Winnipeg has a lack of corporate sponsorship but how about the other two? Any other cities that might be more viable?

Kansas City - swanky new arena was recently built
Vegas - some Hollywood big shots want to get an NHL franchise there
Portland - ex-Microsoft geek Paul Allen owns the Trail Blazers, I could see him wanting an NHL team too.
Seattle - the Canucks franchise would fight that
Winnipeg - should get another chance but their rink is too small.

They can't be worse than phoenix, but I don't think there's another Cdn city that can financially support an nhl team besides another tm in Ont.
The cdn dollar takes a big nosedive and it's over for a team in Peg, quebec, sask.
The downside of another tm in Ont is that the two Ont teams would monopolize hockey nite in cda and we'd see the nucks even less than we do now.
Another downside of more cdn cities is that the nucks would get less tv money than we do now from hnic.
Seattle doesn't have a good nhl rink and the citizens voted against building one for the nba.
Portland? If moneybags Paul Allen wants it he can bankroll the moneyloser for sure, but I don't think he's a puck fan.

I'd rather the nhl reduce the number of tms.

The Canucks would LOVE to have a team in Seattle.
They are far enough away that it would not affect attendance in a negative way, and close enough to provide a nice short trip for 4 games per year. I don't see any reason for them to fight it. Seattle is probably the 4th or 5th city in line for a team.

I expect Kansas City to get the next team to move, followed by Southern Ontario and Portland. I think the NHL will put a second team in Toronto for a year or two, then move them to Hamilton when the arena is upgraded.

Quebec City will likely get another team soon, but will need 3-4 years to get their arena built.

:confused::confused::confused:

I don't think so... the MTS Centre is a great venue. It's our fair city that is the problem. There is no way in hell that we could ever afford to support another NHL franchise ever again...

As far as I am concerned, the NHL should trim down by 20% - aka get rid of 6 teams....

Paul Allen has been very honest about a hockey franchise. Not interested. However, if he were it would be where he lives, in the Seattle area, not Portland.

But Portland might have another corporation that could cover the bills: Nike. So far, they too are not interested.

It is so amazing to see how many cities with such warm weather have hockey teams while Seattle and Portland don't have any. Florida has two teams! That doesn't make sense at all.
