Every year at this time, people keep asking what my new year's resolutions are. What's the deal with this? Why do people wait until the new year to decide to lose weight, quit smoking, be nicer, spend more time with loved ones, etc? If you ask me, these resolutions are goals that people should strive for every day of the year, not just the first day of every year.

Good Point

You make a good point and most of us have not only been on the receiving end of these types of "grandios announcements of life changing behour", but most likely have also been the one to anounce a "great change" to those present at a holiday season party.

All I can say is: Do your own thing, encourage others (even if you know they are full of sh!t, and have fun in live man...)

(Get laid and don't feel guilty if you pay!)

Happy new year and I'd like to announce I havn't been with Paige!

I used to disdain New Year's Resolutions. However, it is a good exercise to reflect on the year that was, what you goals and values are, and, if you have not spent the year in sync with these or moving towards your goals, it's a good time to reflect on this, too. The start of the year is just a convenient marker on the larger yardstick that is life. It actually does help to state goals or even better write them down.

Now making resolutions for the sake of making them, especially when you know they will be broken is rather pointless.

Your Girlfriend

No, actually I'm waiting to eat your girlfriend! She does have that special, intangible quality.... wonder what her New Years Resolutions are?

One can also reflect on personal goals and achievements on days other than New Years Day - can be at the end of every day or every week.
