Watching BCTV news the other night to see what other foot YVR and the RCMP might put in their collective mouths. First had to listen to their meager attempt at damage control. An apology from the Premier, the Attorney General, YVR and of course the RCMP. Are they sorry? You bet they are. Sorry that the whole ugly incident was documented. Sorry they had to return the tape. Sorry that this thing has legs and isn't going to go away anytime soon. Sorry that the RCMP and their crimson image are no longer perceived to be the class act they once thought they were. Me? I'm sorry for the good RCMP out there that are now painted with the same brush as these 4 buffoons.
Patronizing to say the least. An apology, if one was truly forthcoming, should have come way back in mid October when the poor man was killed. The RCMP viewed the tape then and kept it a month up until November 14, when we all saw it. Their collective jaws must have dropped when those senior officers first saw this video. Never expecting in their wildest dreams that this would zip around the globe with such impact and come back to haunt them. An apology without question, should have happened then. Not 5 weeks later. Not a week and a half after a video showing the RCMP’s `dark side’ is sent to every country around the world. How stupid do they think we are? This apology was nothing more than to sooth public opinion and show their `compassionate’ side. "We’ll get to the bottom of all this". Ya right. A very disingenuous hollow apology disguised to be meant for to Mrs. Dziekanski.
I'm glad it came but I don't buy it for a second.
The political rhetoric finally ends. Then the oddest twist in this oddest of investigations. Very odd. The reporter is showing us the glass wall which we’re all quite familiar with by now, and pans up to, what looks like the back of a TV monitor inside the baggage claims area. He describes what we are about to see as he switches back to the original video, same point of view, which we’re also very familiar with. The original video, about 14 seconds in shows a security camera above and over Robert’s left shoulder. It’s quite obvious. It’s attached to the ceiling pointing down at the desk and of course, also pointing to where the soon to be tragic incident would take place.
A camera.
Short story. It’s missing. Gone. The camera is no longer there. The reporter asks the question. Where is it? Me too. Where is it?
Just curious. What’s going on now??
